I had a customer pay me cash for a recent item. He tells me that PayPal told him that my auction indicates "PayPal only" and is showing that he didn't pay. I checked my eBay account preferences and I show that I accept PayPal, check and money order. I do have the "Automatic Pay for PayPal only" checked. Does anyone know how it could happen that eBay/PayPal thinks I would accept ONLY PayPal? I ended up going to "My eBay" and removed the closed auction so, hopefully, that will indicate that the auction HAS been paid for. However, I don't want this to happen again. Can anyone give me a clue what happened and how to prevent it from happening again? Thanks!

WHAT do you mean by:

Automatic Pay for PayPal only ??

Do you mean that you had IMMEDIATE PAYMENT checked??

If "YES," then YES, that means that for THAT auction, you ONLY accept PayPal & nada else!

Nope, I did NOT have the "immediate" payment checked. By the "PayPal only" logo...I think that goes back to a change eBay/PayPal made about 6 months ago...I assume that meant that the PayPal LOGO only would be displayed...as opposed to other payment form logos...At any rate, the "immediate payment" is NOT checked. I'm still baffled! The closed auction number is 2265599522 if anyone wants to check it out to see if they can figure it out. Thanks again...

Your auction description states only PayPal or cash accepted.

Your Payment methods accepted states only PayPal, Personal check, or Money order/Cashiers check accepted.

Boolean logic implies that PayPal would be the only acceptable payment method to satisfy both conditions.

Ah, that ol' bugaboo Boolean logic...I did go in to my account and added "cash" for "acceptable payment methods" so maybe this problem won't occur again. I AM curious as to why this problem has just now surfaced as, previously, I've had several customers pay in cash with no problems. My main concern, obviously, is that I don't want my cash-paying customers to have PayPal problems! Thanks for the help...

Blueyes,
You are over-reacting to an idiot bidder. You terms are clear. PayPal doesn't tell anyone anything. This guy is jerking your leg. Time to move on.

Yes, Jack, immediate payment is an option you have to select when you setup BIN. It does not automatically get selected.

Hi Stonecold...I'm not sure...The guy paid in cash the day after the auction. He tells me PayPal says his account is "in trouble "...Frankly, it DOES sound a bit strange to me too but he has absolutely no reason to not be truthful...Anyway...I've done what I can and haven't heard anymore from him so maybe all is well in PayPal-land. Thanks for the help...

His pay pal account is "in trouble". This sounds like a spoof e mail if I ever heard one. I bet the "timing" was just coincidental.

I just this momemnt got a spoof e mail that said my e bay account is "in touble" that numerous attempts have been made on my e bay account and then of course the ever famous give us all your info, with one simple and painless ,,,click......

I bet you he got a spoof at just the,,,,,,,,? right? ,,,,,,wrong moment in your dealings. He has NO idea it's a spoof.

I could be wrong.........

That happens with my auctions also. Tell your buyer to just disregard it as it only pertains to PayPal payments. eBay doesn't know how you get your payments unless they pay by paypal and then they show the paid logo. This will never change unless they put button in there that you can check paid when you get your payment. Tell you buyer that eBay doesn't care how you get your payment they only care if you file for FVF, but be nice when you say that
