Do any of you charge your buyers a few bucks if they use paypal,to pay for there purchases? I have noticed some sellers doing this lately.I think three dollars a hundred would be better than nothing.

It's a no, no. You aren't allowed to charge here in the U.S. as far as I know.

Tis a TOS violation, and, if yer squealed upon, can get ye booted (note the UK exception):

No Surcharges. Under Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express regulations and the laws of several states, including California, merchants may not charge a fee to the buyer for accepting credit card payments (often called a ~surcharge~. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as payment. This restriction does not prevent you from imposing a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge (in other words, the handling fee for transactions paid through PayPal may not be higher than the handling fee for transactions paid through other payment methods).

>>>Sellers residing in the UK and listing items for sale on a UK-based website may impose a surcharge, but only under the following conditions:

Both the buyer and seller reside in the United Kingdom;

The purchase price is paid in pounds sterling;

The surcharge imposed by the seller is no greater than is necessary to recover the receiving fees incurred by the seller;

The seller clearly indicates to the buyer prior to the buyer's submission of a bid or (in non-auction transactions) prior to completion of the purchase that a surcharge will be incurred and the amount of the surcharge.

While you can't charge for paypal in the US, you can offer a discount for paying with money order, that is ok...Same result as gas stations that offer cash discounts. I just factor paypal into my shipping and handling charges, and if people pay with a money order or check it is an added bonus.

I agree - we factor it in the shipping/handling.

While it is against PayPals terms, it is not against the law in the USA. You will find that all goverment agencie will charge a credit card fee for their services.

The easiest way to charge for PayPal is to require that the buyer buys postage tracking because PayPal requires it on all purchases. Then you can charge anything you wish for it.

I am with jwpc, I factor it into my S&H. Nothing illegal about that. CA is one of several states where it is illegal to charge more for a credit card, but you can give a discount for cash or check. P/P states that it is not tolerated with P/P.

San, why does PP state it will NOT be tolerated? Could it be, maybe, possibly, because to flat out Mention that a seller IS going to CHARGE a buyer MORE for Using PP outloud that it Might turn off a BUYER to using pay pay thus PP would LOSE money. If it's never mentioned, only factored in then that's O.K? Kinda like Clintons Don't ask Don't tell policy.
