Ever notice that there seem to be more and more un-confirmed address buyers on PayPal? I had this happen to me recently. When we first joined PayPal back in the early days, we signed up with our credit cards, put in our info, got our referral credits and so on. Now PayPal is getting older and many of those credit cards are expiring. Here is the best part. When you go into update your info to add the new expiration date on your credit card, your account automatically becomes unconfirmed. I am normally a seller, so I didn't find out about it for some time. Only when I went to make a purchase, did I find out. The seller contacted me back and stated that they only sell to confirmed addresses and was told to either confirm or send payment in a different form. I was confused. I had confirmed my address when I first joined. I finally got ahold of PayPal customer support and they told me, since I updated my expiration date on my credit card, that it automatically makes my address un-confirmed and that I would have to pay to re-confirm. What a bunch of crap. I didn't move or change any address info. I didn't even change credit card numbers. Only updated the expiration date. So if you get any buyers stating that they did confirm their address and it now shows un-confirmed, they probably did and PayPal screwed up system is to blame.

You shouldn't have to pay anything
How do I confirm my address?
To confirm your address, you will first need to add a credit card to your PayPal account. If your credit card company supports the Address Verification System, PayPal will check that the address you provided for your account matches the billing address that your credit card company has on file. You may be required to complete the Expanded Use Enrollment process, in which your credit card will become activated. Your address will not be Confirmed until the Expanded Use Enrollment process has been successfully completed.
How can I confirm an Unconfirmed Address?
An address can become confirmed for U.S. accounts in one of three ways:
1. When you add a credit card to your PayPal account, the address on file with your credit card company becomes Confirmed.
2. Once you apply for PayPal Buyer Credit and are approved, the address used on your application will be confirmed on your PayPal Account.
OR
3. You may confirm your address through Alternative Address Confirmation (AAC).
To qualify for AAC, you must meet the following requirements:
Be a Verified U.S. PayPal member in good standing
Have been a PayPal member for more than 90 days
Have a Community Participation buyer number more than 10
If you qualify for AAC, you will need to fax several documents to PayPal, after which we will mail a secret code to the address you are trying to Confirm. After you enter the secret code correctly into the PayPal website, your address will become Confirmed. For more information, please see our User Agreement.

UNbeLIEVable. So that's why all my PayPal customers are "unconfirmed." I pay no attention to that anyway, as most of my sales are low- to middle-end sales. What a way to run a company.

Does anyone know when this policy went into effect? I got a new credit card last year and have had no problems.

Another reason they are unconfirmed is because of the stupid ebay setup.
Everytime I pay for an item directly from an ebay page, it always takes the address from ebay instead of the confirmed paypal address.
I usually forget to go digging for the place to change it.

I agree, you shouldn't have to pay anything, but the way PayPal confirms your credit as is to charge it and then also put in a special code which you need to enter into PayPal to confirm you received it. Granted, the charge isn't much, $2.75. But they already get enough in fees with no customer service or true sellers protection. Worst of all, I never knew I even became unconfirmed until I went to purchase something.
