Hi All! I have about 1000 pieces of costume jewelry to list on ebay. It is from 3 different estate sales and most pieces are nice. There are some really neat signed pieces and some unsigned, different color lots and different types. Some good, some not so good.

Should sell by color lots, or mix the colors. Should I sell by like items...or mix it up a bit.

What I am really thinking about doing is selling a huge lot, rather than small lots. It is very tedious to photo the pieces, even in small lots of 20 or so pieces.

I will appreciate any wisdom from any of you who can advise! Thanks so much!!

Cat

Well I had that dilemma also. What I did was first a garage sale and sold the pieces that were of not much value. That way you don't pay to list, upload images or FVF or if by chance they paid by paypal you would lose some there. Next I did a maxwell street days and did the same thing there. Between the two I did almost $1,000.00. The rest of the remaining I am going to list in lots except for the better signed pieces, they will be listing separately. I have been checking and jewelry is not doing good in my estimation. I had an eisenberg signed in block Christmas tree pin and only got $14.00. Way to low as that was an older piece. So I guess I wouldn't waste my time or money on the cheaper pieces. In fact I did better in my mall space last month with jewelry than on eBay. JMHO for what it is worth. I wish you good Luck.

With such a large lot, you could list a few pieces on Ebay and a few like pieces on Overstock. It would give you a chance to get your feet wet on Overstock, but more importantly, it would give you a chance to test and compare the effectiveness and profitibility of each site. And the most important part, when the auctions close, come back over here and report the results. A lot of people would be very interested. It may even help you develop a game plan to sell the rest.

I do jewelry lots on ebay a few times a year and always have good luck. You must do good photos. I think the average price per item would only be $2.00 to $5.00.
The "not so good stuff" - garage sale for sure. Or another option would be to donate it & take the tax deduction.
About a year ago I found a lady that was selling some estate jewelry on ebay that was beautiful but 95% was not signed. It was all mint, vintage and there were lots of sets. She listed it mostly by the piece or set. She started everything at $9.99 with a BIN for $20.00 or maybe a little higher on the really nice stuff. After awhile she had such a following that everything had bids within a hour or two of starting. I used the buy it now on some pieces and then watch the rest go well over the BIN. I think the BIN was what made this work for her, that and saying she had hundreds of pieces. She made a ton of money - with that average price being $23 to $35. I spent $350 before I knew it.
At the end - she started doing small lots and I really snapped those up.
She listed about 30 or 40 a week (all with the same description but for a word or two) and ran a tab (for me anyway) It maybe more work up front but shipping couldn't be too bad. This would only work if it is all nice. I know this would be more work but if you plan to list items anyway - why not? Be sure to state that you have some nice signed pieces and list a couple of those a week too - it will keep people coming back.
Of course this was a year ago so you may want to check out some high volume costume jewelry sellers to see if this could work now.
When I list jewelry - it's almost like taking a break to me. I just did about 20 items and was pleased with my results.

Wow - you all have good sound advice. Thank you so much! I will probably start a little at a time and let you all know how it goes! I have been going through the vintage costume jewelry on eBay to help identify and price my items, too. So I have a lot of info to start with!

Thanks!!!

Looks to me like Rosycat needs to upload the files to the web someplace ... the reason you are seeing them, rosy, is that the address you used is the path in your computer. If you use Vendio, upload the images and THEN post the URL using the same method.

yeah she's using her C drive to post the last try but she had her web site addy the first time but it looked like she added part of vendio address to the url also so it wouldn't show up...she just needs the web site url where she has the pictures at.

I love costume jewelry it's all so pretty ! If none of these are signed earrings I'd sell them as a lot deal.If any are signed I'd try and sell them a set at a time .The pink set on the far right have cabochon shaped stones so make sure you say that...some people like that shape.

Let's say someone USED to wear this "costume Jewelry". I tend to think it is not crap.

You may have that opinoin because the darn photos are so large - too much beauty to handle all at once.

This is "classic" jewelry!!!

I don't see any THERMOSET PLASTIC ones? What am I missing.
Pretty so far - do you have pins, necklaces and bracelets too?
It's always been my experience that earrings don't sell as well unless they are signed by a good maker. I usually do best with necklaces & bracelets. Sets are even better.
