For the last few days I have been having problems getting onto my eBay, so tonight I cleared all my temp files and most cookies. While looking for the cookies, I came across a file with about 80 shortcuts to a lot of my pictures, important files etc. My question is, how do I get the shortcuts, am I doing something wrong? Also, if I delete them, will I delete the pictures, files etc. or can I just delete the lot?
I appreciate the help you guys always give. I am self taught on the computer, in my 60's, and I keep finding things I don't understand!!

It sounds like you found your cache folder - the place where your web browser stores webpages and images. I wouldn't delete anything unless you know for sure what you are deleting. You can clear your cookie files and browser cache through your browser preferences.

right click on your desktop and create New Folder...right click again if you desire and Rename the folder.

Then I would drag the file (folder? is a file a folder?) over to the new folder...which I would have renamed Shortcuts or something.

Then you should be able to clear out everything and keep what you want.

One thing I DID notice a few days ago. I clear out my cookies and such via Window Washer and Tools/InternetOptions/DeleteCookies/DeleteFiles/ClearHistory and almost never via Start/Accesories/SystemTools/CleanDisk and I had a hard time getting it to run and compact the files that way! Even though Window Washer says it cleans the slack space. So NOW I will make it a point to also run that weekly.

To really clean out your cookies and cache, drop to DOS, go to the subdirectory you want to delete, and type del *.* Do the same with the mirrored temp internet files directories. Anything in any of those directories, you can live without. When you delete cookies totally, you will have to sign in again on certain sites (such as Ebay and Vendio) that you have instructed to "remember" you.

Thanks for the help. I have deleted all I don't need. My question is, how do I keep making shortcuts, what are shortcuts, and do I need to keep them? They are all in one file under "cookies".

I had a live support tech with ebay help me clear out some old files and it really helped speed up everything on ebay. I think he had me use the find option but I can remember what he did now? Is that what you are talking about Sparkz? Don't think we went to DOS

amber, i'm not sure WHY you are accidentally creating 'shortcuts' ... sometimes if you have a file highlighted for a while while you're working with it, it creates a shortcut ...

sorry I'm not much help...
