I ran a recover disk on my 'puter and it is heavenly - at least for now - no popups and no lock ups.

I have two disks with my HP computer. One is labelled System Recovery and the other is labelled Application Recovery.

What exactly is the Application Recovery disk and do I need to run it? Might my not running this disk be the reason I can't access the USPS Delivery confirmation page?

Also, my ISP suggested I download Mozilla Firefox or Foxfire? I have seen a discussion of this and would it work with my Window 98 sytem?

Hello,
I really don't know about the Application Recovery disk. However, I just went to Firefoxes homepage and it says it does work on Windows 98. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/index.html

Click on the requirements link on the right side.
Hope that this is of some help.
Kevin

Thanks - I may just try that.

So far my computer is working so much better - unless someone comes along who knows what the application recovery is - I may just let well enough alone.

I have done this before, but it was a long time ago and can't remember what I did.

sorry, I was off packing up my DH for his first hunting trip...

You have 2 cd's. One is for wiping the computer clean and one is for restoring all the original programs. Sometimes you just need to reinstall a program which is why you have 2 different CD's.

I will bet that you have not been to Windows update and updated all your components. Your computer will not be able to access certain websites until you do.

I do hear a lot of good things about Firefox however. Don't know what it requires of windows updates or if it's just like IE.

DO install AdAware - SpyBot - JavaCools Spyware blaster and ward off having those same kind of problems. Let me know if you need the links and I'll post them (again and again)

No you don't need to instal the application recovery, but you may want to. It contains any software that came preinstalled on the computer when you bought it. If you have all the software you need already installed then don't bother with it.

I couldn't remember which is which - it's actually been a while since I had to use my HP disks since I formatted and installed XP! It doesn't crash like it used to on W98.

Ok, here it is from the HP website:

System Recovery is for reinstalling everything - ie doing a complete wipe out and format, in which case it will do what you did - a clean install like it is a new computer. You lose all your old programs etc. Not always a bad place to be however.

Application recovery is for reinstalling software (programs) or drivers without losing anything on your computer.

If you did the System Recovery you will NOT need to use the application recovery.

NOW - have you installed SpyBot, Spyware Blaster and AdAware yet? How about a virus program?

Oh, thank you guys.

No I haven't installed the spyware, etc.

My darling daughter is coming this weekend and she is going to help me. I just couldn't wait any longer to get my computer to work, however. It had become unbelievable.

Yes, I did choose to wipe it clean and start over. I reinstalled my scanner and camera software - that is really all I need. Can't seem to find my husband's golf game, though.

I am going to give the Mozilla a try when she gets here.

Thanks again, everyone.

Trixie
