I just got 7 or 8 hot wheels from 1967 & 1968. Seems like they are selling for prices that are all over the place.
What do collectors look for besides condition? Is the date a true date or something else. Some are marked Hong Kong and other are mark US Patent Pending - is this important?
Thanks

Yep, that be a redline. Of course, the ones pulling the highest $$ would be still in the blister pack, then loose but mint cars coming in second.

I did it - I did it!!!!!
I would say none are mint but this one is ok - some are better - some are worst.
The guy I got them from had them when he was a kid so I know they are old.

I'm glad you've asked about this! I have a collection of about 3 dozen of these cars (son's from long ago), had done some research on them and sort of given up. Maybe I'll give it a try, and I'll be sure to look for the thin red line.

Dont sell your "played with" redlines short. I have made huge profits on Redline lots that looked like they were saved from the landfill. They are a hot item. Use REDLINE & RED LINE in the descriptions...

Koto1: I may take you up on your offer. These cars are just taking up space in my Ebay room.

What is special about red line cars?

Roadsmith - Sounds good, just let me know. Twelvepole - When Hot wheels were first introduced, each wheel had a redline stripe on the outside, hence the term "redlines". This continued until the early to mid 70s. These are the most prized of Hot Wheels since there weren't a whole lot originally made, and most of the ones that were made were obviously played with by kids. AND, in addition to all of that, they had some really neat car designs back then

It's just like Matchbox cars...the most sought after are the older cars that came with normal black or grey thin wheels, along with the box.

Don't laugh guys but here's a dumb question.
Are all hot wheels Ford cars??

Looks like there is quite a following for the redline hotwheels...but I think this auction is the exception, as most don't get bidding this high.

ladyjewels2000,
No not all Hot wheels are Fords. I'm sitting here looking at a "Company Cars" Monte Carlo.
Glad someone mentioned these, I have a whole box full that I meant to have out by now! Shoot!!!
