Today I was paid through PayPal for an old calendar sold to someone in Italy. Below is the message I received from the go-between. I didn't realize there were trading assistants in Italy who helped people pay for their Ebay wins. Learn something new every day!

Here's the message:

Item Title: eBay auction #2283775910

Message
Note: Hi ! Our customer "XXX" has just sent us the money to pay you . Now , as previously agreed , we are able to pay you the amount of $ 31.70 . Thanks for your "open mind" and to have accepted our customer to pay you through our PayPal account to let him receive the item even without holding a credit card ( not so common in Italy ) . For your added convenience and security , I've arranged this payment to be funded by PayPal means

Please note that we act as professional and concerned Trading Assistant on behalf of our Italian customers , so the item won should be sent to the address of "XXXX" , NOT ours .

This is the shipping address :
Mr.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (my deletion)
Biblioteca Panizzi
Via Farini 3
42100 Reggio Emilia (RE)
ITALY

In the meantime please accept our best regards .

Have a great day !

you should tell them you would rather ship to a confirmed address.

Boy! We don't accept PayPal internationally, and then to ship to an address other than the account's address? Never happen!

Y'know, guys, I guess I'm naive and trusting! I've sold to Italy before, I've mailed to unconfirmed addresses lots of times, no problems, and I'm going to let this one ride. If it rises up and bites me, I'll let you all know!

Edited to add: I take PayPal from anywhere, and ditto--no problems--at least yet! I'd be much more skittish on this sale if it were for big bucks, though.

That company has an account on eBay (gabricrisa) with a very good feedback rating, I expect you have nothing to worry about.

Roadsmith and Upriver,

I've driven a car thousands of times without bumping into anything, and I'm only going locally in town, but I still put on my seat belt. Better to engage in safe practises without making a calculation each time what the odds of getting hurt are.

For what its worth, I sell a lot overseas, and my terms are accepted by most buyers. If they don't accept, c'est la vie.

Goodmorning!
I also except paypal from all over the world for years and I do it without even given it any thought or worry, I also ship to a different address if its requested of me.

Sure, we all know that something can happen at anytime, but if you worry about dotten your i's and crossing your T's with every transaction, then where is the adventure in life.....lol.......

I'll tell you where I found true adventure in life........Just be a buyer on Ebay, thats where the true adventure is!.......Everytime I buy on Ebay Its like going into the jungle unprotected and when something goes wrong.... now your up the river without a paddle!

I say just do what feels right to you,

I've had the same experience with an Italian buyer - sold a PC for more than $60 last year and buyer paid through a friend's PP account. I didn't have a bit of trouble.

I too have sold much overseas and to Italy no problems either. This does happen with their financial system sometimes. My biggest gripe is no Global Priority to Italy and it can take forever to get there, but the customers are excellent and worth the extra effort. They pay top dollar for the items. Some weeks without international sales I would be real discouraged with Ebay.

Hi all,

My only problem with shipping to Italy is the many restrictions.

I've had to mention in several auctions the item can't be shipped there. For example, lighters, a pair of leather opera gloves, postcard albums, perfumes, most textiles.

Here's a link: http://ircalc.usps.gov/prohibitions/Italy.htm
