I have just upgraded my Paypal account to Business, so up until now I have not taken Paypal from International buyers. Is there a problem with taking Paypal credit card payments from International buyer? I want to update my TOS, but need to know about this first.

You're going to get a big variety of answers here. I'll just say that I take PayPal from anyone anywhere, never had a chargeback. There will probably be a first time. . . .

you will get no seller protection as your bidders's address are unconfirmed.
but you can take out insurance on your package if the bidder claimed no delivery.
also the paypal fee is higher for foreign credit cards

As whining has said, you get no seller protection at all. I've never had to try to collect on insurance on International ships, but I've heard that it's a big hassle and can take a loooong time. Even with insurance, the buyer can sign for it, and still claim non-delivery. You automatically lose with Paypal, and you won't be able to collect on insurance as there will be proof of delivery.
.
.It all depends on what you sell, how much money is involved, and what your risk tolerance is.

Make sure that if you do decide to not accept Paypal that you go to Paypal and change your payment preferences. I believe that the default setting is basically "accept anything from anyone anywhere". I personally have mine set to give me the option to accept or decline payments from unconfirmed addresses in the USA (which I do on a case by case basis), and set to always decline from International bidders.

I accept PayPal on all of my International transactions. Chargebacks have never been a problem.
I did contact DSI yesterday and have to say that their charges for insuring international packages are fantastic (domestic are pretty tasty as well). Since my store has kicked the value of my average order up quite a bit as late I'm probably going to add them in to my shipping next week.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Thanks for the input. I sell from Canada, and most of my buyers are in the US, and it seems to me that about 50% have unconfirmed addresses, so I don't suppose it makes much difference if International buyers are unconfirmed also. Ironically, because I live in Canada, my address is also unconfirmed.

For an opposing view: I don't accept PayPal internationally except from Canada, and then only if shipping is by other than USPS.

Knock wood...I, too, take PayPal from international customers...so far, never had a problem. In fact, I treasure my international customers...unfailingly quick to pay and delightful to work with.
