A deceased elderly relative (b. 1910) left this with her jewelry. It's a little drawstring lace bag, 4" long, with a drawstring that snaps together, about 10" long. I'm guessing it's to carry valuables in a bosom, like on a trip or such, but this is only a guess. Can't be a falsie, as there's only one.

Sigh. Okay, hit me with your best jokes, and then let's be serious!!!

If it's big enough for a man's hand to fit in, I might have a couple of suggestions

You are right, it is to hold valuables and attached to the bra straps and nestled in between the bosoms. They still make these but in plastic now.

I bought one of these for my Mom before she left on a trip to New Orleans and she carried her money, 2 credit cards, Driver's license and her wedding ring when she was dancing with the "Mardi Gras". That was about all that would fit into it. I had heard from a travel agent friend that these pouches were the way to go as there is alot of theft during Mardi Gras.

You guys are too much!

Okay, pmelcher, I like your explanation. But exactly how would it attach to bra straps? I'm technologically challenged, engineering-wise, and cannot figure it out.

And thanks, Maggie, for brightening my day with YOUR suggestion. Food for thought.

Any idea of this item's age?

If this is like my Mom's, you attach it to one bra strap and tuck it in your bra between your booblets...

From the looks of the lace and snaps, yours is probably from the 50's or 60's.

BTW, it is snapped wrong. Open it up. One strap should snap back into itself. That way each strap can be connected around a bra strap.

Boring little Factoid...This "style" originated in the 1800's. The original design was tied around the waist and stored underneath the skirt. Victorian skirts did not have pockets, therefor this little bag was a safe place for traveling money, hiding jewelry from highway men, etc.

A new way to use it, place your crystals and stones in it. (No Classic, I'm not talking to you!) A great way to keep those healing energies close to your skin.

I'm laughing!

Thanks, everybody for your help. I'll list it this Sunday night. I just found a category in Everything Else - Personal Security - and I'll put it there and in women's lingerie.

No, it's a Merkin Bag.

You might be inclined to ask "What is a Merkin?"

This site says it all:

Funny you don't see THESE on eBay?

And yes, as far as I can tell this is "for real".
