Or is it just my buyers? I swear there has been a marked increase in the number of people paying via the mail since PayPal's troubles last Fall. I used to have about 80% of my buyers pay via PP but now I would say it is more like 60% and dropping fast!! All I know is checks are a whole lot more work IMHO and I can feel the strain!

I have seen and increase in not only checks and money orders but credit card payments as well. I don't mind the credit cards because like PayPal they are automatically posted, but paper is more work.
Be kind. Everyone is fighting their own secret battles.

I sell about 750 items/month and checks are simply more work. I am not wild about the PP fees but I am all for simplifying my work flow!

I only take money orders or Paypal. Most of my items sell under $20.00 and I don't need a $24.00 charge on my account if I get a bad check for $10.00. The Bank use to not charge me if I got a bad check, now they will under the new check 21 law. I know at the flea markets bad checks now run like water.

Closed my PayPal account in 2002. I happily take Postal Money Orders. Slightly *better* sell-thru rate than when
I took PayPal. I have to go to the Post Office anyway - might as well cash those Postal MO's while I'm there!

Most of my customers have been using PayPal - which is great for me - less work. This weekend only 2 people said they would send checks or money orders. All the rest have already paid with PayPal.
But I am seeing more international sales. I wonder if it is because the dollar is weak.

I haven't taken checks for 5 years & am not about to start again. I like PayPal. Why? Because of the high rate of turnover. I can sell something & have it out the door in 24 hrs. Yes, I take MO's too but I like the fact that I can pack & ship the same day as I get paid with no week or so waiting for my cash. I had 8 sales go off on Sunday night & 5 are out the door today. The average sale was over $25.00, that means I can go shopping tomorrow at another estate sale.

I have to concur with both Neglus and Gootie.
I just did some checking of my payments over the past four months, and credit card payments to the merchant account are at 71%, way up from around 45%. Almost all the difference off of the PayPal percentage. I have seen a trivial increase in the checks/MO, but an increase non-the less. I see this as a big plus for the sellers anyway.
