Is there a specific name for these Mah Jong items? They are sticks (2 7/8 inches long and 1/4 inch wide). Each has a design on both ends and both sides. I've called them "pegs" or "sticks" but don't think that's the "official" name. Thanks, in advance, for any help!

I think they are called "tiles" ( don't play Mah JOng BTW)

" To play Mah Jongg, one needs to collect different combinations of tiles. In Mah Jongg these combinations are known as Chows, Pungs and Kongs. A Chow is a consecutive sequence of three tiles of the same suit. A Pung is three identical tiles of the same suit. A Kong is four identical tiles of the same suit. "

Mah Jong is also played with domino like tiles. They are usually made out of Bakelite and make great bracelets. I have never seen Mah Jong tiles like that, very interesting.

I don't think these are tiles...I have some tiles too and they do look like small dominoes. But...I'm totally ignorant...could they be a different type of "tile"? Hopefully, someone will know for sure...Thanks again...

It relly doen't matter what the shape or color is, they are called "TILES" at least for the past 65+ yrs. Thats what I have heard them called. My G'mother taught to play when I was about 8 yrs old.

hi

Those are the counting sticks.

I don't know exactly how they are used. The tiles are the 2" X 1 1/2" or so thick square blocks. These are long and thin, probably bone if you see little miniscule holes in the material.

Thanks, skizzi...I think you're right...at least "counting sticks" seems to make sense in light of what they look like. Appreciate the help..

They are called Scoring Sticks & sometimes Bones.

Used to keep a record of how much you owe other players at the end of each hand or at the end of the game
