I get the following message after auction closes:
"Hi, I don't know where to start, I will start with the truth. I was looking for items on ebay for glues to that treasure hunt game that ebay is promoting. And that is where I made a big mess. I was starting to shut my computer down when I noticed that I had won several items I never want to buy anything. I am Very sorry. The total that they say I need to pay is well over 1200.00 I am sick to my stomach,I am sitting here just crying, I don't beleive I made such a HUGE mistake. I am just wondering if you could find it in your heart to allow me out of this contract I will be forever greatfull. I am a mother with four children just trying to make ends meet. I m again truely sorry for doing this to you. I ask please help me with mu mistake. PLEASE!"
Anyone else having this problem? I have more emails to go through, but I checked her purchase history and it ends right about where my auction ended. I think I will tell her that ebay will have to send me a notification in order for me to consider not filing for a FVF.

i don't really believe the story but if she's sincere, i think she'd be delighted to just pay your listing and final value fees.

I don't believe her either, but if you want to be nice, or avoid more pleading email, you can always file for FVF stating "mutual agreement"

Rusty,
I had the same thing happen to me. The purchaser (for it was a BIN) told me that she was 74 and had done the same as you mentioned in the original post.
I explained that there was a cost on my end and tallied it up. She paid me my fees incurred and I let her off the hook. It's an item that I have been listing for years and have multiple, so it was just the fees that concerned me.
I was understanding throughout - because it's not that clear what anyone is looking for in that damn treasure hunt. And, if you look at the clues and the winning listings - most have NOTHING AT ALL to do with the clue...

The thing is that, you have to enter an amount to pay or use the Buy It Now button, and then confirm the bid before a bid is even placed. It even clearly states they are entering a binding contract. I sent her an email telling her that if she would have eBay notify me of the error, I would be happy to let her slide. No response as of yet.
