Well, it finally happened after several years. A package did not arrive that was paid for with PayPal. I do not buy the DC as they require so I think I need to refund, right? It is a small amount and I do feel bad that the package did not get there. The buyer has great feedback.

I think you got do it!!!! You could put a tracer on it - just to see if it turns up.
If you pay and print postage with paypal - DC's are free. BTW

I didnt know you could opt out of the dc through paypal postage?? But why would you - its free on priority and only 13 cents on the others?

Refunding is entirely up to you. Most put disclaimers if buyer doesnt purchase insurance - seller not responsible blah, blah. Still, Paypal wants that DC as proof it was sent, and if its a small amount, you may want to keep the customer coming back to your auctions....

Thank you lady, I thought I needed to refund. I have never printed postage, am afraid being non-technical I will mess it up. I have these great labels (thousands and thousands) that I really would like to use but they are probably not the right size, they are 6 1/2 by 4 inches and self stick.

No, they just let me know it did not arrive and have been very nice, that is why I am inclined to go ahead and refund since it has been almost a month since it was mailed.

sorry pmelcher, I misread your statement above. I thought you meant you printed postage through paypal without DC.

It is so easy to print the postage from paypal!! Really it is! If you do ebay, you can do that. Just follow the prompts! The dc on priority is free and 13 on pp or 1st class (actually 33 cents with their .20 fee). You should try it - you dont even need labels plain 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Then cut it, glue it/tape it to package and youre done. All paid for. Dont have to wait online at the po (unless your not sure your scale is correct.) Youre really running a risk not to do that anymore. You can do it!!
Try one!! You'll never go back to buying postage at the po again (well maybe )

Even if you don't do it through paypal, you can do it through USPS Shipping Assistant 2.2 - You aren't actually printing postage with that program, just the mailing label. That way, eDC is free with priority or express, or 13¢ with any class of mail. It is easy to use, and free too.

That being said, I do think you need to refund. A chargeback will mean you get it taken out anyway plus a fee, so I would just take the loss and think about using it in the future. I used to ship without it, now I can not even imagine doing that!

Often they are not left the yellow notice by the mail carrier. Tell him/her to go to the P.O. and ask them to look for it. This happened to me and sure enuf the package was there. Never received a notice tho.

We moved into our current residence in July of 2003. I don't care for the security of the community mailboxes that the USPS euphemistically calls home delivery, so we get our mail at a UPS store (originally Mailboxes, Etc). No biggie.

A couple of weeks ago we bought a new car and the financing was much easier if we just used our street address for mail. I hustled down to the P.O. and plunked down $30 deposit and waited for them to call me to pick up the keys to our 'cubby' at the unsupervised mail drop-off point. We got the call, picked up the keys and go check the mail. There is a box, I am completely serious here, in the side compartment that has been sitting there since March of 2004! You know how the key to the larger compartment is left in your box? Yup, sat there for a YEAR.

The really funny part is that it was a modem from AOHell sent in an attempt to get their pathetic service to work! Sent to the wrong address with all of AOHell's efficiency! Too funny! And my daughter just reamed them at the time because she never got it!

barbra streisand happens.

Parklane, oh how funny! I had them check and no, there was not notification of a package so I went ahead and refunded. Ebayvet, I will check out the USPS shipping assistant, that sounds good. Thank you all for the help, I love this board!

pmelcher, just so you know, if you use the shipping assistant you will have to unblock pop-ups for that site and probably download an active X file (Java) Some firewalls give you a hard time doing that...
