My pet peave for the day. Why does Paypal allow more than one full payment to be made on an item. I am having too many people paying more than once, in error, then needing a refund on one of the payments. Would be nice if paypal clued them in that the item has already been payed for......

It's to benefit crooked sellers who like to charge their customers twice.

Gosh kpcards, I have trouble getting people to pay ONCE

I've had double payments happen a few times, but not so many as to be a bother.

Because it is not their responsibility to police grown adults?

Because some people buy multiple items from dutch auctions and make individual payments and it's not a payment processing company's place to tell them that they cannot?

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Ok- I'm sorry I vented. It's not a problem- it's lots of fun- and I hope I get many more double payments to refund in the future.

This became a very large problem when ebay started the pay with PayPal directly from your ebay pages. This wasn't a problem when the buyers actually had to log into their PayPal accounts to send payment. Then if they had sent the payment and couldn't remember, it was right in front of them on the main page that comes up when you log in. Now with the major un-reliability of ebay, we have things showing being paid when they are not and thing showing not paid when in reality, they are. Get used to it, ebay has a history of not listening to the people when a problem arrises, they just expand it.

Personally, I request a single payment for multi-purchases from bidders because I give a S/H discount on more than one purchase. If they pay for the items individually, I pay more in paypal fees because of the minimum fee PP charges. If customers still pay individually, I refund the payments (for free) and ask them to resubmit a SINGLE payment OR pay full S/H for all. Oh, duh, right answer, wrong question! When people pay TWICE for same item, I refund the payment and notify them by email that I have done so. Most do not even send a thank you email or any acknowlegement of such! Once it was for over 100.00 and I never heard a word back but found the refund was no longer "pending" in Paypal so I quess they got it OK but half expected some bad static on that one further down the line that would cause me to have the original pymt. charged back as well. I printed out all pertinent info just in case but so far..nothing has been said. Just a short acknowlegement from the bidder would have alleviated seller stress.

This can be a PITA! It isn't just that PayPal ALLOWS buyers to make more than one payment, it is that somehow the first payment isn't picked up by ebay so the item shows unsold. Obediently buyer pays again - this doesn't even take much thought with the new ebay feature where buyers pay multiple sellers in one click. I was getting two or three payments from some buyers! Finally I figured out that I was refunding the recent payments - making the item appear unpaid again! I started refunding the FIRST payment (the one that didn't get picked up as paid by ebay) and that put an end to the triple and quadruple payments.

this is not the job of the payment service like Paypal-if the bidder cant remember if he has paid or not, there is a disease called dementia and there are neurologist out there they can make appt with.
