Put Firefox on both computers several months ago -- was never a fan of IE anyways.

The only thing I don't seem to be able to do is make multiple payments when I bank on line; have to make payments one by one (my bank's site foibles). Otherwise, my machine runs clean, fasters, and smoother. Virtually no spyware (other than what comes from eBay I think), and haven't had a popup in months.

I love their tabbing function for multiple window switching, and their search bar which permits you to enter one term and go to several engines in sequence (including eBay) without physically going to the individual site. Great for researching possible eBay items!

Overall, very pleased.

Cheers.

Firefox is definitely worth using. The tabbed browsing windows alone are worth the effort. And trying it is no big deal, if you aren't happy, just uninstall it... It's not like it costs you anything.

I've never tried Thunderbird and I don't use Outlook either... I prefer web-based email (Yahoo or Gmail) that I can access anywhere and don't have to worry about the safety of the messages.

I also installed Thunderbird, and use it -- again, never a fan of OE, but used Eudora for many years. I'm happy with it also -- you won't have a learning curve as it behaves similarly to Outlook Express with nuances of Netscape and will import your OE files. Good sorting and display functions, seems to understand spam and puts it where it belongs.

I use Firefox and love it. I use Incredimail for email just because it's so much fun to use.

Birgittaw... I have used Eudora and kinda liked it. What features does Thunderbird have/do that is better than Eudora?

agate, just be aware some sites are not quite firefox friendly just yet, though more and more are becoming so every day.

It was also mentioned to me that IE is now more secure than firefox (and I was sure it was coming to that anyway) but at the time it seemed to me it only proves firefox has made the grade - if its getting poked and ripped.

You will like it, if you try it. Takes a little bit of trial and error navigating your way around the extensions and menus, but if your not big on that anyway...a browser is a browser, takes you where you want to go.

Re: Thunderbird vs. Eudora

Since I have muliple personalities, I don't need to switch between user IDs or domains to either send or receive emails (I have three emails on my ISP, four on yahoo, all for different purposes). It filters messages into junk without being in a paid mode, you can display messages for all, last five days, recent, etc. etc. And it doesn't ask me to register. Besides, I love the name

Be mindful that I haven't used Eurora in about a year or so, so it's possible that some features have now been added to recent releases.

It's free to try, a quick download, and it imports everything without destroying your current email program, so at your leisure, check it and see if it works for you.

It's a far superior browser to Internet Exploder.

I love the tabbed browsing on Firefox!! I usually have about 6 or 7 open at a time (no stacking like xp windows) and switch back and forth easily. It seems to be much faster than IE when mavigating ebay and requires fewer signins!

Thanks guys, for all your input. it would seem that the the general opinion is in favour of the 2 programmes. and that they are both better then outlook and microsoft. well i have taken your advice and installed them. there are a couple of things i cannot find yet or dont know how to do. but i should be able to sort them out.

in outlook express mail programme there is one thing that they have that i cannot find in in thunderbird. that is the insert with signatures. that is something that i really do need . is it there.? if so where.? i am probably not looking in the correct area.

Go to file
Select Page Setup

Go to Margins Header/Footer -- right tab
Headers and Footers
Default box is Title
Select from drop down -- URL, Custom
Enter text or whatever

That should do it.

WOW.Firefox really is good. stops all those popups. and is definitely faster. nearly got it setup the way i want it.

thunderbird is still giving me a few problems. but i suspect that is only because i dont understand the system properly. one thing i cannot get it to do is to accept my pass words for the internet servers. so i can send emails. keeps on blocking me from sending them.
