Do I wanna be? 5 or more Ebay members have picked me as a Favorite Seller. Is this legit?

Paranoia will destroy ya

What exactly do you think is the harm in having ebay members mark you as a favorite seller so that they can check out your merch.. Do you think they are casing your virtual inventory?

There really is a line behind cautious and overtly paranoid and it's amazing how many people from this board seem to live their lives on the wrong side of it.

Use a little common sense, a bit of logic and your own instincts. Those are the most important tools in recognizing scam artists and for some reason people seem to completely bypass that and rely on the word of strangers.

~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~
No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...
I think it is a spoof.
I received a notice today but it was for a second ID I haven't used in over 2 years. I changed the name of it about 6 months ago so it would be pretty hard to be a "favorite" under that ID.
It's not a spoof. You've probably been on someone's favorite list for a while. I don't know why, but eBay sends stuff like this out every once in a while. Not everything is a spoof.
I got one today also. Maybe it's a new marketing thing they've come up with... and maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm not sure that I'm pressing the button on the email. If it shows up in my Messages at My eBay, I'll look at it.
I got one too... guess I'm not as special as I thought ;^(
It is real... by the way. If you go to "My ebay" and click on the "ebay preferences" link under the "My Account" section, you can then edit your "Top picks" section.
I got it too - pretty sure it's not spoof. I think it is to promote the newsletter that store sellers can send out for free - maybe they are going to start charging for it? I couldn't figure out how to use the dang thing when they introduced it.
I got one too. Does anyone use the E-Bay toolbar? I thought I'd give it a try to see how well the account guard works. It is suppose to alert you if you are clicking on to a fake site claiming to be E-Bay or Paypal.I just wondered if it works on the question to seller e-mails.
Pay no attention to all the Picked as a Favorite Seller hoopla! We got the same eBay emailed congratulations on several eBay seller accounts that have been dormant for two+ years... looks like it's some new eBay marketing ploy. Also there is no mention if the buyers are active or dormant (like those seller accounts).
For sure not a spoof but it sure was a STUPID idea to send them out like they did!! Wonder what brilliant soul at ebay thought up this campaign? The ebay chat boards are full of threads about this - probably more work for Trust & Safety than any gains ebay could hope to harvest from this!! Maybe Trust and Safety isn't busy enough? LOL
