In March, I sold an antique barber's chair. I stated in the auction that this had to be picked up or they would have to make their own arrangements for shipping. This was paid for through Paypal. In the Paypal acknowledgement was the message, I'll pick it up when I can. I have since e-mailed about every three-four weeks, as a reminder, with no reply. My question is how long must I keep this in my garage? It's very large and quite heavy and is in the way.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

If it were me, I would call and tell them to pick it up by a certain date or else it would be thrown out. Have you pulled their contact information?

You've been awfully patient. I'd definitely give them a deadline. Have they left feedback for you already? Have you left feedback for them?

He is taking advantage of you and your free storage,he will come around some day to pick up the chair,you just dont know when?
When he does come around,ask him to sign a receipt.

Since it's a similar question, I'll "sort of hijack" your thread. I sold a print on 4/10; got jerked around for payment (filed UPI), then got paid, and he said he'd pick it up. I've since emailed him twice; each time he says he'll come by to pick it up.

In the meantime, I can't find the COA any more. Ordinarily, I would offer to rescind the auction if I can't deliver everything I indicated. However, I'm just not set up to store things indefinitely. Shame on me for not taping it to the back of the print, but still, I had it shortly after the auction ended, but in the half dozen moves of the print from this storage spot to that, it apparently got misplaced.

What would you do? Nothing? A few bucks off? Rescind the auction?

PS Every one of my auctions states "We are also happy to arrange pickup of items to avoid shipping costs, but you must pick up the item in a timely manner as our storage capacity is limited."

Ya have to give them a DEADLINE date,,,,,out of here by so and or that's it. Over and done with.....quit bothering them. Date comes and goes TOUGH Shi#.......end of story....Yup, you are NOT a FREE storage unit and you might even add,, storage charges do apply for ONE month and then,, it's REALLY over with......Been there done that......threw Many things out.....or sold them.. NEVER HEARD from them again,, NEVER.

Send them one last e-mail. State in the e-mail that you will begin to charge a storage fee. Let's say $7 per day. And also give it a time limit when the item will be resold to pay for the storage fees.

That should get the ball rolling.

Thanks all for your input!

USUALLY, when an item has to be picked up I have a deadline in the auction. For some reason, I failed to put it in this one. I have emailed him, again, through eBay. I just couldn't pull their contact info, I tried, but it kept giving me their feedback.

Oh! A note to anyone who has an auction where the buyer arranges their own shipping.... We sold a four-wheeler to someone in NC. He made arrangements for it to be picked up via a trucking company. We were told to just put it on a palette, which we did. We just got a bill (overdue, of course) from the company for almost $400. (Turns out the company had to "crate it", as a palette was not good enough.) I gave them the Buyer's info, and basically told them, nicely, to pound sand. I did not make the arrangements, so it was not my bill. Waiting to hear back....

And the fun never ends.... lol!

What are the legalities / eBay's view on selling items that are not picked up? This framed print sold for $200+, so I obviously wouldn't mind selling it twice (from a financial standpoint), but I don't want to get into a mess over it either.

Maybe thru 'Contact a Seller'... might have said, '"hey, I'm so-and-so's brudder-in-law, and he bid on this for me, so I'm coming to pick it up."
