I purchased a Game Boy for a friend of mine a few weeks ago and paid through paypal. The Game Boy purchase also included a bonus item. I received the bonus item in a Priority envelope-the paper kind. NO Game Boy. I contacted this Powerseller immediately and told them what I received and asked if they send Game Boys in flimsy envelopes. Here is their response...
Hey Terri,
We would ship the package in a box. We would not ship a cable in a
tyvek envelope though. Also, with an item like a GBA, we have those in
a scanned inventory that shows which customer is getting that item, what
day it was packed and who packed. I see that we have your name signed
on the 26th of May. I am sorry but all of our records show that you
should have recieved this item, and there is nothing we can do.
Sorry for the mix-up.
Dawn

HELP! My friend paid $100 for this. How do I respond to this?

Easy. Just copy and paste the thread you just posted into an email to the FTC, the U.S. Post office fraud investigation department(Postal Inspectors) and immediately start a claim with Ebay's fraud insurance division. You might also want to copy in your local district attorney and the D.A. in the county he lives in. Don't get bogged down in a drawn out email exchange with him. Put the ball in his court.

Just filed a complaint with Paypal. Will that do anything?

I am just very curious. What kind of feedback does this seller have?

Nope. Won't impress them a bit. He will send them a scan of the DC for the "bonus" item and they will find in his favor. He is obviously depending on software to run his business. He either bought it from the low bidder, or is too stupid to figure out how it is supposed to work. The other alternative, which I lean toward, is that he's a crook. In any event, you bought a Gameboy, and he didn't deliver. It's up to him to explain to the authorities what happened, and it's not up to you to guess at what the problem is. You may want to pull his contact info and give hime a phone call first. Then come back here with what he said and your gut feeling. If that phone call arrives at a voice mail or answering machine, you can kiss the $100.00 goodby unless you are willing to play hardball.

My suggestion is to first call paypal. Let them know what happened. See what they say. They will probably tell you to report it and to file a dispute. ( I would file one right away if it were me) If you do file one. Document everything, including the email you recieved. Copy & paste your email and their reply. Leave emotions out of it. List the facts. Save the package that the "bonus item" came it too.

Betcha at least half of those 31 negs are about "item not received". This is how he earns his beer money, yet keeps his feedback high enough to retain his power seller status. AKA selective screwing.

Interestingly enough, I just checked out their feedback and most of the negs were about items not working. The only negs for not receiving item or non refund were for a few things at .01 or 5.99. THAT would be no big deal to me, but $100 for my friend-NOT acceptable. Thank you for your responses. I'll keep you posted. One funnny thing--someone commented on their high shipping rates--their response was that shipping covers ebay and paypal fees. How blatantly honest. And they do have 24hr support online. Can we post their names on here?

Boy if this seller is getting 2400 positive feedbacks/month (imagine how many sales he had total) then I think it is more that he ( or probably someone working for him) goofed then that he is trying to rip you off.

I would send another email to him and tell him EXACTLY what you received and restate that you did NOT receive the gameboy no matter what his "scanned inventory that shows which customer is getting that item, what
day it was packed and who packed. I see that we have your name signed
on the 26th of May." means - you DID NOT receive the Game Boy - only the bonus cables. Perhaps he had better take the matter up with the person who packed the item because what you received most certainly arrived in a Tyvek envelope and not a box and you have the envelope (I hope you kept it) to PROVE it!

If it were me, I would yes, try calling the seller and talk to someone in charge. Then, if that didn't work, I would file a chargeback with the credit card company (since paypal can't help with this one).

-----
And YESTERDAY, our son came home, last day of school, and says, his friend, Eddie, sold an item for around $250 on ebay; his buyer received item and says 'this isn't as described or as pictured' and immediately went to paypal and filed complaint and was credited his money back. ... when Eddie went to his own paypal account, and viewed the complaint, the only thing he could see was that 'buyer received item; buyer received refund' ... period.

We're talking juniors in high school here, and I assume Eddie didn't get 'return receipt requested' which I think you have to have for paypal items over $200, but I'm pretty sure he would have insured it (which would require a sig.) ... I told my son that Eddie should pull the buyer's contact info/phone number and call this guy to see if he can work it out to have the item returned to him (or something). If this buyer refuses to return the item, are there any further steps Eddie could take to recoup the item or the money? (unfortunately for eddie, he left with his family yesterday right after school for a 10 day vacation, so the poor kid sure started off his summer vacay on a sour note, eh?) ...

If he's a junior in high school that would make him under age 18??? I thought you had to be 18 to sell on eBay. If he doesn't get the merchandise back, there are steps. I'm sure someone here knows what they all are. I don't won't to tell you the wrong thing, though. I think for that kind of money, I pursue it!!

Marcia

I actually had to figure out how old I was as a junior. Since I graduated at 18, I was 17. The birthday thing. Back then, since I didn't turn 5 until October, I had to wait another year. Isn't it terrible to have to think on it? Could it be age????

file a comlaint with Paypal-this will fall under 'ITEM GROSSLY NOT AS DESCRIBED' and paypal will take 100 dollars from his account until the matter is settled.

I am hoping that you saved the packaging. If so, the solution is very simple. Scan it, along with the postage then email the scan to the seller and ask them to explain how they were able to send a Gameboy at the weight of a cable. If they used a service such as FedEx or UPS then use the tracking number to get the package weight from the shipping company.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...
