I think this is the web site you're looking for.

If it's a Beatles album - you can look that up at www.fab4.com or something like that. You won't believe some of those prices.

You can find lots of records at the flea market for 25 cents each.

Thanks Melissa--That is the one I was looking for. Most of the people at the flea markets around here want at least 1.00 each for their records and when I look and they are scratched up and the covers have waterstains they still want to tell me they are very "collectible".
I appreciate the help!!

Problem is that unless you REALLY know what you are doing, you won't get the big bucks. The differences between a first and second press are microscopic. The color differences are sudtle. If you can not tell the differnce, you won't get the bucks.

I have tried to find to find out how you can tell the difference in first pressings and later ones but have never had any luck. Is there a web site with any info. I would love to know since I have so many records.

Hi - The "Bible" for anything having to do with vintage record value and selling is The Goldmine Standard Catalog of American Records. Tons of info on identifying records and subtle differences between pressings and quality. Take the pricing info with a grain of salt. Your records are only worth what someone will pay for them today, regardless of some of the astronomical prices quoted in Goldmine. You'll find the guide at any chain bookstore. Good luck!

dejapooh is so right on that. It can be a very small mark or the absents of a mark. I once sold a Beatles album for $600 on ebay but I probably would have stuck it up there for $15.00 and let it go if someone had not just sold the same album for $400. From their description - I HOPED it was the same album so I wrote and they were nice enough to tell me what to look for - I had the first West Coast pressing of Meet the Beatles. Too bad it was missing the sleeve and had a inch long scratch in it but the cover was great. One of my best surprise ebay transactions.
My husband has about 5000 to 7000 albums now - but I stopped my complaints after he let me sell his dollar Beatle's album.
melissafan100 - thanks for the link from me too. I am sure I will be using it one day.

Guess I will break down and buy the Goldmine book. Sounds like it would be a good investment.
I have about the same amount of lps as ladyjewels husband + several thousand 45's but am still pretty ignorant about figuring out which are first pressings. I did sell a Beatles Butcher cover for 1200.00 several years ago...but I did the same as Ladyjewels and had looked on ebay for what it was bringing or may have sold it a lot cheaper, of course I made lots of money on it since I bought a box of records for 15.00 from a yard sale and it was in there. Sure would like to find some more of those.
I appreciate all the help.

Wow Parkman - good for you but now that's that one's been on the Roadshow, I doubt that you'll find that one again!!!!!
I'm sure you know to look for Jazz records. Danny (hubby) also let me sell one of his box sets and it brought about $200.
I'm sure it's a lot of work to get top dollar but that's true of anything you sell on ebay - good luck

Thanks Ladyjewels...good thing Danny and I didn't marry each other...we would have had way to many records (oh...I am a girl so tell him not to get nervous).

But should I get nervous??? - if you collect speakers too - I'm really in trouble. I have your soul mate!!! lol
I introduced him to garage sales and estate sales when we first got together - so it's all me fault anyway.

My hubby (who is really parkman) just laughs and builds me more shelves for records and goes to yard sales, auctions etc with me and tries to keep me under control.
Of course he likes it when I sell things like the butcher cover and he gets part of the proceeds.
