I found this vase at an estate sale. I was told it was Majolica and belonged to his grandma & had been in the family a long time. It is unmarked pottery. It is approx. 9 1/2" tall. Any ideas?

I forget how to post the image, so pardon my ignorance. You'd think by now that I would remember this

Don't know a thing about it, but I love the detail of the flowers/leaves.

The green shades remind me of Blue Mountain pottery, but the flowers kill it being BMP (IMO).

trying a url didn't work for me either, so sparkz, you da man (woman?)

Thanks mcjane, and apologies sparkz, I honestly didn't know. Can't really tell from our vendio names/writing style sometimes, although with classic it's obvious enough (heh heh).

Ralphie reminds VENDIO users that to post an image, ya need the actual TRUE URL, which, in this case is:

Thanks Tom & Ralphie. Here is a photo of the bottom. So Tom - what would the true url be?

BTW - someone thought this may be Asian - Chinese or Japanese, so you are probably right that this is not Majolica.

sorry its taken so long to get back to this. I don't know who made it or where .... but have suspicions. I do know for certain you should not list it as Majolica it is not. I would use the title Art Pottery vase w/applied flowers. If you run your hands ,fingers, inside and you can feel ridges that would say to me it was hand thrown... which I suspect it was. It is very lovely and has a nice standard glaze. Mention the ruffled edge and how thick the pot is... is it thick and heavy or a thin slip. Its a very nice pot but majolica collectors will blow by it and it will not get the notice it should if listed in the art pottery area. My opinion, hope it helps.

Thanks bjboswell. I appreciate your help. I also showed it to a dealer friend, and he agreed that it is not Majolica. He thought it may be Asian or Chinese. He thought it may be a Raku type glaze because the bright green glaze drips over the other glaze.

The vase is not hand thrown, but is from a 2-piece mold. The vase is quite heavy & has a heavy high gloss drip glaze.

I plan to list it over the weekend. I will probably list in 2 categories. Which art pottery category do you think it should go in?

Thanks for your help.

It's not Asian! Wrong type of flowers and the wavy rim is all wrong. They look like lily of the valley to me. That seems to be a European or American touch. Nevertheless, I love the vase. It's beautiful.

Good Morning, I agree with Cblev... its not Asian and its not Raku. In a raku glaze the potter throws ash into the fireing at the last moment creating a rough and irredecent glaze. I also think the flowers are lily of the valley. My best honest guess as to origion is American possibly a studio pot. The flowers look hand applied? It really is handsome.

I hate to be the skeptic here, but has anyone been to an import store lately???

I have been seeing a lot of this glaze in the oriental import stores. I love the color and the manufactures are trying really well to make these appear old.

My favorite local oriental market has shelves of vases in this glaze. It goes well with lucky bamboo and money trees.

Sure, it may have been his grandma's, but granda may be a flea market hound and bought it 5 or 6 years ago when they first started showing up.

Old or not doesn't matter in this case unless the manufacturer can be identified. What does matter is that it is a pretty vase and if described well, should sell well.

Thanks to all. No, I haven't been to an import store lately. Is anyone willing to suggest some key words for the title? Which Art Pottery category should it go in?
