I've looked on the web, and have found similar but not identical items. This consignor has "dozens maybe more than 100" of these and similar, but what I know about this could fit in a thimble and have room left over for the Constitution.

Great looking pieces! So tell me what you want to know -- age, origin, value? With the sheer number of lead toys produced over the last 100 years, it's doubtful that you will find these exact pieces in a web search.

There are lots of articles on the web for antique lead toys, which will give you at least some basic info.

You don't say how big these are, nor whether they're hollow cast or solid, or anything about marks. Is this a set, more than a set, assorted pieces?

To me, they look German or French, ca. 1900 give or take a decade, and just delightful with their worn paint (but a true collector may not like that). That's simply a guess on my part.

You may want to repost this on one of the eBay groups, as in the toys discussion group. Someone will surely give you the info you need.

birgittaw,

That's a good idea; I've never posted on the eBay forum, let's see what that brings.

I don't think that they are part of a set. A couple that I know bought their house 40+ years ago and remarked on the lead soldier collection to the seller of the house; he told them that he would gift them as a housewarming present.

I couldn't find any marks on these; there might be marks on others that I don't have in my possession. These particular consignors, while wonderful people, always seem to have something that I can't figure out

For example, they have Tannoy Mallorcan speakers. I generally know my stereo equipment, but I can't find them in the Audiogon bluebook, eBay, and Google only tells me what I already know: they're a coaxial design in a Mallorca cabinet. I estimate their value between $25 and $1225 -- think that's too wide a range?

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

fenix,

Thanks, but I'm relatively aware of Tannoy speakers in general, but I am stumped by the Mallorcan cabinet. I've heard some of the pricier Tannoys, and they're (if it's possible) worth the money. They're just not as good as my beloved Linns

By the way, as an interesting sidenote (at least I find it interesting), in England, Tannoy had until recently been the "genericized" word for loudspeaker; like we're inclined to "Xerox some copies" even if our copier is another make, Brits used to refer to their speakers as Tannoys even if they were from a different manufacturer.
