Quite suddenly...my camera won't take a picture. I was wondering if it could possibly be the 3 volt battery. I've had the camera for several years and have never changed the 3 volt.

It turns on and works in every other way...just when you push the button to take a picture...nothing happens.

yikes!

Don't you have a back-up battery? Or perhaps you have a more advanced model than my Mavica 73? I have two batteries, which I keep charged, but they last only about 120 minutes. You might have a more serious problem, unless the battery you have is meant to stay in the camera that long.

Do you have a 3V adapter? If so, take the battery out and try it with the adapter. If it works that way, the problem is with the battery. Is your battery a rechargeable Ni-Cad or a Lithium?

it's the fd75. It has both a large 7.2v rechargable battery and a little round 3 volt sony battery.

I thought it might have something to do with the large battery needing recharged but it's still not taking a picture with a fresh charge.

It turns on but just won't take a picture.

I've researched the replacement cost on the 3 volt and it runs about $25-30. Not rechargable as far as I know. It fits in the little door on the left under the "brighter" adjustment.

It's a little round flat 3 volt lithium

Do you have your instructions? If so turn to page 39Gb The page is titled Self diagnosis Display.

If not there is a self-diagnosis display. In the right upper corner of your display screen. This function displays the camera condition with 5 digits ( a combination of a letter and figures) on the LCD screen.

If you need that page post it here and I will put it on the board. But check and make sure that you have a formated disc in your camera.

I have a really old FD71 Mavica so I might be of no help but do know that if it was the lithium battery, the camera would not even turn on. There is nothing in my manual even locating or mentioning the small round 3v Sony battery. I just can upon it myself while exploring the camera functions. It is still good after all these years ( crossed fingers) and I did buy the camera new.

I was told the 3v lithium battery was the battery that operated the date, time etc.

Is your button stuck? Some times when I take a picture, the button will get stuck in the down position, basically it moves under the case. If you jiggle it a little, it will come back to normal position and work fine.

Well...I'm not getting a self-diagnosis display message on my LCD

I looked up page 39Gb in my manual and it didn't help...

I'm off to buy a battery just in case it's an easy fix.

It's funny how I feel like I'm at loose ends because my camera isn't working. I was right in the middle of a consignment job too. Ugh.

Do they even make digital camera's anymore with the floppy discs?

No...the button pushes up and down but the little green light that comes on the LCD screen when your picture is in focus doesn't come on and nothing happens when I push the button.

Sony said to give my battery a good 8 hour charge (I usually give it about 2 hours) and see what happens. They don't think it's getting enough power.

So I'll give it a shot...

Crossing my fingers.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
