It makes no difference what kind of stores ebay has to offer, this low price mentality permeates thru the entire Ebay spectrum.
Time is better spent building a store away from Ebay, better yet, make Ebay disappear so we can regain some pricing power!

Is this a web-store separate from ebay? It looks like you can make it mirror ebay store - wonder if you get the referral credit if people purchase items through the web-site? Looks kind of interesting if you ask me..

Neglus - it looks as though it is a stand alone store, basically your own website, that utilizes the same programing as the ebay stores while existing as a seperate entity.

Personally I think it is interesting too. I'm not wild about the percentage of sales but if you are just getting started with your own website seems like a good way to get something up and running now that can then be switched over to custom design and such when the fee structure kicks in next year. It's a good way for people to find out if it is worthwhile for the to invest time and effort and expense into cusom site without a huge investment in time and money.

I wonder if the long term plan for ebay stores is to spin them off to this venture? It would effectively double the monthly subscription, do away with the monthly listing fee and reduce FVF significantly - or do you have to have an ebay store too to "ntegrated with eBay.com and eBay Stores listing formats, so you can tap a marketplace of 147 million customers directly from your ProStores Web Store". Are they going to include prostore items in ebay search...how big is 5 GB anyway?? Will it handle my 6000 items?

Fenix...So you're saying that this software could be used to set up a store outside Ebay, on another host such as Vendio? And be completely seperate from Ebay? If so, I wonder if Ebay will allow links in auctions to these sites.

Sparkz eBay does not allow links to any site off eBay (I'm sure this includes prostores).

Fees pay for the right to sell on ProStores. You do not purchase exclusive rights to Web pages on ProStores and its email services. ProStores may, in its sole discretion, and without Your consent or payment to You, place third-party advertisements on any Web page or email communication within its Service offering.

From everything that I read on the site, I get the feeling that this is eBay using technology that they already own and finding a second income stream from it. VERY smart move and look at all the built in potential customers they have.

I think that these sites will stand completely separate from eBay but because of the similar programing there will be some integration enabled. As for how big 5gb of space is... it's big. Whether or not all of your images will fit depends entirely on the size and degree of optimization but I have 500 4x4 images stored on my Works accounts right now and they are taking about 17 megs. When you figure that 1 gig is equal to 1024 megs I don't think size is going to be a big issue.

Right now my big question is whether or not they handle multiple currencies. I do like the fact that it seems that you can assign some type of password that allows people to access different pricing structures so that you can have retail and wholesale pricing. I'm wondering if you can also set up a flat percentage discount. Then you could put a note in all of your shipments and advertsing emails giving a discount to previous buyers who visit and buy from your new site. Figure that you can offer them a 5% discount on a purchases and you are still farther ahead than you would be if they bought from your ebay store with eBays 8% fee.

I have to finish up some eBay related stuff over the next couple days but I'll probably go ahead and give it a run next week. I'll let you know what I think as I go along for those that are considering.

I have been thinking of opening a yahoo store to move some of my business away from ebay, but it looks like I will be staying within the ebay family. The prices here are much cheaper than yahoo, the closest comparison I see is $40 a month with yahoo, and 1.5% fee and a startup fee. Ebay's will be $21 a month (after store discount) and a .5% fee and free startup. Plus, no final .5% fee til January, and the possibity for cross platform integration with my ebay business. I don't even have to move my website over to ebay, I can integrate the ebay pages with it. Once I finish my vacation, I am going to give this a try.
