I have used PayPal, almost from its inception, with basically no problems, until eBay bought it out.

It has been my practice for years when removing funds from my PayPal account to have them automatically transferred it to my bank account. Normally, I only made a transfer of funds when my PayPal account had reached at least $1,200.00, and then I would transfer $1,000.00 and leave the balance in PayPal incase I should want to purchase something on line via PayPal.

Actually, I seldom use PayPal to make purchases, so I can easily do without the $200 I normally leave in the account.

THEN, a couple of months ago, PayPal froze my account, which then had $850.00 in it, and it took forever to get the mess straightened out. It was NOT a buyer complaint, but the fact that on one of our web sites where we sell knives, we had a PayPal logo, although we did not actually use PayPal for the site – we had our own cart system, and only put up the PayPal logo to reflect stability and reliability. PayPal KNEW we did not accept PayPal through this site, but threw a fit and froze our account because their logo was on it.

We removed all PayPal information, but it still too over a month and a call to PayPal to get it straightened out.

NOW, I BELIEVE THAT I WILL DO WHAT A FRIEND OF MINE DOES, and that is to open another bank account, which will be strictly for PayPal. When PayPal makes a deposit, I will immediately go on line, and transfer the balance out of that account to our regular business account, so that PayPal actually cannot tie up, or remove funds from my regular bank account, well not much. Think I will keep a balance of about $10.00 in this special PayPal account. IN ADDITION, I will transfer funds from PayPal to my special PayPal bank account much sooner than I have been doing.

I am coming close to seriously considering dropping PayPal all together – as only our eBay buyers use it, and we are posting less and less on eBay. Our major sales come through our web sites, which have their own shopping carts, and payment is run through our own Merchant’s Account.

When there is a customer dispute on your own Merchant Account, NOTHING is tied up, and you have a month or more to dispute the issue.

paypal cannot access your bank account,the reason why paypal can recall your transfer is only when the fund is in transit,2-4 days after you initiate the transfer.
so there is no need to have another bank account.
Your merchant account can do more damage than paypal can,it will access your bank account to withdraw fund,as it can credit your account,it can also debit your account.

It can also delay depositing your fund and holdback a certain amount called reserve.
I recall you sell a certain type of knives??

I don't understand. Why would you have the paypal logo on your website if you weren't accepting paypal?

Maybe I should start including a Volvo logo in my auctions, to indicate stability and a reluctance to roll over. Or a Sub Zero logo to indicate that I'm cool. Or a Ferrari logo to indicate that I'm going through a mid-life crisis

Wow, this is fun! I can represent myself as whatever I want, whether or not it has anything to do with my item or my terms of sale! Dang, and just when I thought eBay was getting stale

Yes, we do have a site, which sells unique knives, but it also has brass knuckles, law enforcement equipment, etc. We live in the FREE south where such sales are legal.

HOWEVER, we also have a site, which strictly sells fantastic women's sequined clubbing clothes, from Las Vegas - nothing objectionable to PayPal.

Apparently, the issue was each site has a link to the other sites, and to the one, which PayPal objected to.

No big deal, just a major hassle when one is using PayPal and PayPal gets upset with who know what, and freezes one's account.

Regarding a Merchant's Account, disputes are easier to settle, and there is no freezing of ones account, our customers can continue to make their purchases, we can remove all the money (except the disputed amount) and THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO US.

I am glad now that we never even considered using the PayPal cart system, as obviously if PayPal gets in a twit, they can freeze your account, you cannot get the funds out till they get over their twit. Such is not so with a Merchant's Account, which we have had for over 10 years.
