Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July! My best wishes are especially with those of you like CBlev who have so much worry now.

Thinking about hanging the flag on the deck for our cookout reminded me of this cabinet card in our collection so I decided to share it with you.

Keep in mind folks, the 4th of July is just a calendar date, no differenet from the 3rd or the 5th.

The fact that it's INDEPENDENCE DAY is what counts and the name reflects the true meaning of the day.

Celebrate your INDEPENDENCE!

Photo - what a wonderful photo!!

Here's my contribution. I collect 4th of July postcards but it looks like Emil has hidden the best of them (he hides cards he wants for fear I will sell them ) :

And happy Independence Day to all of you, too! Grrrreat postcards. Wouldn't they be wonderful blown up as posters?!

Our little mountain town will celebrate today with our annual 1/2-mile parade to the center of town. This year we have double the number of parade entrants, 107, and it's an old-fashioned hometown parade. People come up to our village from the "flatlands" and thousands line the streets.

And, for the first time, our Independence Day Festival right after the parade with a dunking tank, pie-eating contest, chili cookoff, watermelon, sarsaparilla booth, etc. etc. I'm working it from 8:30 to 5.

I'd rather stay home and read a good book, I must confess.

What a great day we had! Cooked pork tenderloins on the Weber with dry rub we bought in Memphis. Ate on our deck on our new furniture set with the flag flying and listening to the Air Force band from the Air and Space Museum on PBS. To me the 4th is such a perfect holiday. Not a lot of pressure and preparation but full of wonderful spirit.

I hope everyone had a great day and that those of you with serious pain in your life had your burden lifted a bit.

Some of our neighbors set off fireworks for the last hour, first to the north, then west, and then south. Just when you thought they were done, some more pretty ones lofted up over the trees. It got so loud the locusts shut up for a while. The smoke is pretty thick right now but what a way to celebrate Independence Day!

I miss my good ole days up in BAWHSTON & da POPS!

Watched the CBS coverage which really SUCKED -- they miss the 1812 OVERTURE in favor of some C&W noise.

Poor Keith looks constipated with disgust -- I turned it off after 20 dreary mins

Ahhhhhhhhh.....
