I thought is was hot here today with 104 degrees, and other locations around us hitting 110 degrees, then I found this little tidbit on the NWS updated weather discussion tonight: (this is an actual copy and paste)

"EVEN FURTHER EVIDENCE OF JUST HOW HOT THINGS ARE IS A REPORTED 132 HIGH AT FURNACE CREEK (DEATH VALLEY), WHICH IS ONLY 2 DEGREES SHY OF THEIR ALL TIME RECORD. LOOK FOR MORE OF THE SAME THROUGH THE SHORT TERM "

Death valley is just over the hill from where I live. Now I know why there were a dozen people in my pool this afternoon.

Death Valley is well-named, Sparkz. Yes, I believe those temperatures. Horrible.

I knew they were expecting 125, which is not uncommon this time of year. But 2 degrees below a record, which will likely be broken this week, is unbelievable. I'm beginning to envy those on the Texas coast waiting for hurricane Emily to hit. And to make this Ebay related, I've adjusted my schedule for this week and next for taking packages to FedEx. I went out early yesterday and when I got back, there was a Bidpay payment that I had been expecting. I would normally have waited till about noon to ship and her item would have gone out yesterday. Instead, it didn't go out till this morning. No more afternoon excursions for me until this insanity gets back to normal.

The weather has been crazy all over. We had 10 days in June above 90 degrees. That's unheard of around here. We've had several already in July. We're also suffering from a Lake Effect Drought. It's odd when northern Ohio is warmer than southern Ohio! It's insane!

Here in Ont. Canada June was the hottest since 1918, and I think July is beating it. For the first time ever, towns and cities have opened "cooling centers" where people can go to cool off, a lot of people here don't have air conditioning, we are just not used to temperatures this hot.

Last weekend it was raining and 62 here (Oregon) but today it is supposed to be around 90. I've been following the temps in Vegas and the surrounding areas, I just got back a week agao and glad I dealt with cooler temperatures there!

"Nightline" had an interesting story last night on "Global Warming"...Politically charged but it seems like we'll be in for more of the same with dire consequences for life forms on earth. Of course, won't really start to be noticed for 50 years of so (when experts say we can expect to see vast numbers of species extinctions) but probably most of us won't be around then to see it.

You don't have to gop Death Valley to be hot Camp Roberts was 113 & California Valley was 116, Palm Springs was 120. Santa Maria was a lovely 74 & somewhere here on the coast the high yesterday as 60!!
sparkz; where do you live? It sounds like Fresno or Modesto, or Bakersfield.

Sanmar...I'm between Fresno and Bakersfield, in Visalia. And I'm well acquainted with Camp Roberts in the summer. Did a lot of training there in the 60's.

I had a chance to go to Fresno next week with my sweetie. I said thanks but no thanks, not this time of year. She would be sitting in an aircondition conference room & I would be out hitting the antique shops in the heat.

I don't blame you a bit Sanmar. The valley is no place to be during a heat wave. Normally the heat doesn't bother me, but this summer the humidity is high because of the extremely wet winter we had. Right now, it's 91 degrees here and the humidity is 42%. The heat index will range from 105 - 115 degrees today. The other thing most people don't think about is the air quality index. The high pressure that's holding the heat in the valley is also holding the ozone and other pollutants in. It could be extremely miserable, and dangerous, for someone from the coast where the weather is always mild and the air is usually clean.

It's even extra hot here in Idyllwild at 6,000 feet. And a bit humid too. We mountain folks don't need air conditioning most of the time at our higher altitudes, but today I'm wishing I had one of those free-standing portable units for my Ebay office.

Everyone here over the age of 55 or so should be aware that as we get older we become unaware that our bodies are thirsty. Be sure to drink extra fluids, even when you don't think you need them.

You are so right Roadsmith. Dehydration can land you in the emergency room in very short order. After reading your post, I went out and bought another case of beer

I'm near Sacramento and it's up to 106 degrees ugh! The kids end up holed up in the house because the air is so filthy. Only one more week before it cools back down to the upper 90's! WOOOHOOO

Wendy...Remember 3 weeks ago when it hit 91 and everyone was complaining about how miserably hot it was? What I would give now for a few days of 91 degree weather.

Yep! I thought we got off easy with June being so 'mild'. My employee was laughing that her mom in WA state was complaining about their heat wave...a whopping 85 degrees.

OMG!! The forecast for tomorrow is 86 degrees!! I guess I will go to the mall where it is airconditioned. I live in a Mobil Home Park & Nobody has A/C. This an emergency situation. Anything over 80 is Hell!! Really just kidding.

Sanmar...Whaddaya mean anything over 80 is hell? Anything under 100 here is heaven this time of year. If we had an 86 degree day tomorrow, I would be running naked through the sprinklers in the front yard with a bottle of two buck chuck in one hand and a 15 cent cigar in the other and singing all the way to jail when the cops haul me off.
