I'm currently selling a grouping of older Dungeons & Dragons games, books, playing cards, etc. as one large lot and I'd think I can ship them via Media Mail, but can something that contains games be considered Media Mail? There doesn't seem to be any advertising included in this lot.

Thanks a bunch for any advice!

I don't believe games would be considered media mail. (Although I admittedly don't know a lot about Dungeons & Dragons in particular. If it were formatted on a CD-ROM disc it might. But you mentioned that there were playing cards, which makes me think of a board game.)

According to the U.S. Postal web site, media mail is:
"books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer recorded media such as CD-ROMs and diskettes."

Keep in mind that the post office may open media mail packages for inspection and if they deem the materials don't fall into the media mail category, the package may be delivered postage due to the recipient.

I hope this helps. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable may be along shortly with further information.

D & D is mostly booklets and loose leaf pages of charts. If it has the dice that may cause a problem. I mailed a huge box of D & D books last year sometime through media mail but it was only books . Most will prolly tell you no it's not media mail but I would ask a friendly postal worker to make sure. To me a book is a book.
edited to add heres a power seller shipping one media mail ,but I'd still ask

seldom sell anything that i send media mail, the occasional CD is about it. however, the post office here in Tiny Town has started asking that we bring in the media mail items packed but unsealed, so they can peek in and make sure the item qualifies for media mail. anyone else had that happen yet?

i guess that's brought to us courtesy of the people who abused usps tape and boxes, that crowd...

If there are playing cards in it, the answer is NO! If it is just reading material & CDRpms, It is ok.

Game are not supposed to be sent media mail. According to the U.S. Postal web site, media mail is:
"books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer recorded media such as CD-ROMs and diskettes."

Postal workers are now required to ask what are the contents of any package marked media & have signs posted that they have the right to inspect those packages.

Since I often sell games, I can't believe the number of people that list media mail for their shipping costs. That makes my shipping look "high".

I've seen the signs too, but the following is ambigious: computer recorded media such as CD-ROMs and diskettes

What is an Xbox game - It is a computer recorded media, really a CDRom. I think the USPS needs to be crystal clear on this, specifically targeting video games. Until that time, people will be shipping these via media mail. Fortunately, most single games are just as cheap or cheaper to send first class mail.

ebayvet - you are right about video games being ambiguous. I was referring to board games.

Board Games, 100% agreed. It's amazing what I've received as a buyer that people send media mail. I recently purchased a game on half for my son, and it had a microphone with it - My local post office did open, inspect, and slap me with a postage due for the difference between media and first class mail. The seller did refund that to me and was nice about it.

Been happening around here for about two years. The PO finally woke up and determined that media mail was being misused.
