I know they have a odd size limit which is something like 84x56x36 but I can't remember for sure what it is. Their information line drops the call and I need to do a large item quote? Anyone know?

That was easy:
The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. The extreme measurements of length, width, and height shall not exceed 30" x 47" x 82".

Note, I don't do clickable links in forums any more after a friend ended up somewhere she really really did not want to be.

Hmm, never heard of Greyhound shipping
I'm just woundering but why would you ship with them? Their delivery times look to be longer and their prices higher then DHL Ground shipping. Is there something I'm missing here?

Their prices for extremely heavy items used to be very good compared to standard (FEDEX/UPS/DHL/SIIYCADIY) shippers...

For Example:
Ralphie wants to ship 100lbs of MONKEY PORN from JAX to BOSTON:
Origin:Jacksonville, FL
Destination: Boston, MA
Payment Method: Prepaid
Service Type: Standard
Nbr. of Pieces: 1
Total Weight: 100 pounds
Declared Value: $300.00
$86.00 seems pretty cheapo!

$86.00 YIKES!!!!!!!!
Like I said, DHL's cheaper. Here's a quote for your above package using those city's with package dimensions of 30x30x30. Ground would be $51.51 and if you want them to pick it up at your house it's a additional $3.00.

Greyhound is often the only option for a LARGE package that UPS et al won't take (although sometimes, if you go to UPS itself directly, you can ship larger than 132 combined inches).
I've shipped a full size iron bed from PA to Texas for $70. A steamer trunk went from SC to Chicago for $45. It's not the most convenient, but it does have its advantages.

Not sure about UPS but DHL's size limit is 165 inch's combined. Their weight limit is 150 pounds for guarenteed day delivery and 200 pounds for non-guarenteed day delivery. I have found their size requirements flexible though if you call and ask. I have shipped exhaust pipes for heavy over the road truck/tractors that were close to 10 feet long and it was not a problem. Just taped some cardboard on the ends to cover sharp edges and applied shipping label directly to pipe. Shipped no problem.

I do use DHL all the time for large items but I was hoping I could just drop this item in a 36" cube box and ship it Greyhound - but it won't work. It won't work with DHL either as they would charge over $400 to ship. \
I remember the first time I used DHL - I shipped 3 100 lb boxes (36 cubed) from Jax, Fl. to Calif for something like $65.00 each. That was when DHL had just merged with Airborne.

ladyjewels2000 - Over $400 ???? How are you shipping??? Next Day. I have shipped packages that size that were over 100 pounds from PA to CA and it was less than $100 for Ground service picked up at my house and shipped to a residential address and recently I might add. Dumb question, did you possibly put some wrong info in the shipping calculator on DHL when you did the shipping quote?

I just did it again to check and if I put 36x36x36 in for 55 lbs from 32207 to 11205 - it doesn't offer Ground - and 2nd day is $415.00.
I don't think I'm doing anything wrong but you are welcome to try it and see what you get?
Thanks

I'm a little bit puzzled... Are you guys talking about Greyhound Freight or boxing up whatever it is and putting it on the bus?
I sent a computer, monitor, etc., to my nephew once. It was in a couple of really big heavy boxes and it didn't cost much at all. Didn't take long to reach him either. He went to the bus station and picked it up.
Maybe there are two ways of sending something Greyhound?
Okay, I'll get back to my Two Buck Chuck now!
Hope all had a Happy New Year.

At least I'm talking about taking it to Greyhound, and sending it in the baggage hold of a bus -- recipient picks up. I think what's messing up the OP is the 36" cube -- it's gotta fit inside the cargo hold and 36" is too high? What are you shipping -- something that won't come apart?
Since you are going pretty much up the coast and not across several states, a blanket wrap on a pallet by your friendly shipper may work and not break the bank. Check with one of those Pack and Ship places.

ladyjewels2000 - I tried it and got the same thing. I called them and found out why. The package dimensions exceed the limit by a little. The size dimension limit is 165 combined inch's. example: 33 long x 33 high x 33 wide = 165 combined inch's. Your package at 36x36x36 comes up to 180 inch's. The measurement is the girth (distance all the way around) + the length. If you can fit it in a 33 inch cube or other box that comes in at 165 or less combined inch's you could ship via ground.

I didn't think they were open today?
I have a big item & one of my 36 cube boxes left but I guess I'll have to make do.
Thanks for trying to help, Mike.

UPS purchased Overnite transportation and now offers tl/ltl services for the 48 states. tariff is pricey - i just shipped 151-lbs, non palletized shipment to zip 60655[chicago] from 30446.. cost $218.00 for 2 day service... pricey, but still cheaper[with less service] than cratersfreighters.
