Google turns on PayPal killer

It's official: Google has started offering a rival to eBay's PayPal payment service. Google Account, a service that previously just let users purchase videos, will now be available to sellers on Google Base, Google's classifieds website. Google Blogoscoped says that the move brings it "one step closer" to becoming eBay. To be sure, Google lacks eBay's auction capability, and a community of buyers and sellers. But Google could easily list Google Base items on its Web search results pages for free, making money on Google Account payment commissions.

For an auction to be effective, those items have to be confined in an arena (say an Auction site).
Overstock auction is a flop,it never attract anyone besides its own loyal customers.
But I think Google has the clout to attract the core Ebay sellers, hordes of them !!

I agree, the auctions need to be confined in an arena. What wouldn't work for us is for people to Google a gadget and get more than a million hits. How can searchers find our items the way it stands now?

To challenge Ebay,Google would have to pour millions of dollars and programming hours to anticipate an Ebay like venue,it would take at least a year to get it up and running .
Build it and they will come-it will attract every battle worn Ebay seller in every category you can imagine to come and test the water!!
