Beats me why someone would watch an item that is fixed price. Other than to see if it sold so they can sell theirs be my only guess. I hate the watch number in listings as it is so bogus...

I couldn't agree more. The watch system hurts sellers for more than it helps them. That is a system that needs to be dumped. But then again, we are talking about ebay, so they will probably expand it.

I confess...I do put Fixed Price and Store items on my watch list.

It's my way of bookmarking something until I've got the extra cash and I'm ready to buy. Sorta like a wish list.

If it makes you feel any better - if I go back to buy the item and it's already sold, I still browse that seller's other items before leaving.

Well if they expand it they should just add 2 buttons Watching until Payday and the other one Just Nosey. Then we can see why they really watch.

Would any of you actually pick the Nosey button if watching an item?

TNErnie, I understand that I do same thing only on what I want to buy which isn't often. Another reason is to see what they end at so I get idea how much money I am going to have to save and I go to that person's store or auctions to get from them as I have already scoped out their reputation and such. I understand that but I would like the numbers to disappear from the list so as not to get any hopes up for us sellers. LOL Yes I think we need a choice of buttons if it is going to show in sellers list.
Humm, do they have a way to turn off the watch numbers?

Please people, no more ebay changes. They have thing's screwed up enough as it is, we don't need anymore problems. The poor buyers are confused enough as it is. Two watch buttons. I think some of their heads might explode.

I to am one of those people that places store and FP items on my watch list. I usually do it when I am shopping around for the best price. I spend a few day's searching and trying to find the best deal. Other times I just use a sellers store item as a bookmark to their store. Instant access to the sellers store by using the drop down menu that's on the watch list. I have about 8 stores I go to rather frequently and I have one item from each sellers store in my watch list as a book mark. Some are ended/sold items but they still serve their purpose for me.

Ditto , what Mike said. I like to keep my favorite sellers on my watch page. IT just seems more efficient.

I know others do it too because some of my closed listings will have multiple watchers until ther expire on ebay. The auctions, hopefully not the watchers

We had an auction end last night that had 32 watchers, but only 10 bids and one sniper after all was said and done.

I've learned not to get excited over them anymore. Now I just use them to gauge if the auction is showing up like it should. As long as it averages 10 - 17 watchers per item on ending day, that's about usual and I know eBay hasn't been messing with the search again.

irked: I think you got it right at the start. Many, but not all watchers thank goodness, are just sellers seeing how the comp is doing/will do with something they have something similar to.

Ive had many items get bids/sell without any watchers at all.

I hate the watcher thingy too, I also hate tv commercials, but still can't refrain from occassionally (never can remember how to sp that word) watching them.

Any number of reasons:

- wait for seller to lower price
- comparing same or similar items before buying
- seeing if there is interest in item (competing seller)
- watching item for research purposes (info, graphic scans)

and my personal favorite:
- wait until listing is expired, so they can ask seller if they still want to sell the item (often at a lower price).

I'd also like to see the watch feature dumped. Before the watch feature, people used to bid early. Now they just watch, and forget to bid.
