By the way...I just read an estimate today that the 1200 dollar rebate to a family filing jointly will just about cover the increase in costs of groceries and transportation due to the increase in fuel prices over the last year. Anybody who thinks this is free money is a fool. It's going right back into the pockets of the maggots who run the oil companies one way or another.
Bought bread lately? How about flour? Or eggs? They're all up at hideous percentages due to rising shipping costs and the price of corn. Why is corn up? Ethanol. Ethanol only provides a 2/3 return on the energy required to produce it. In calorie terms, that means it takes a hundred calories worth of other energy to produce 66 calories worth of ethanol. The government subsidises ethanol corn farmers at the expense of our food supply, essentially they're welfare farms. The system is broken beyond repair, and we're all oblivious, greedily waiting for money our grandkids will end up paying back.
So let's all go buy new flat screen TV's with our tax rebates.

"direct deposit" is for your tax refund...if you are getting anything back from filing your taxes and are having it direct deposited into your bank account

niel35...direct deposit is an OPTION on your TAX RETURN..but you can also have it on your STIMULUS CHECK
gasolineguys....here is another calculator and blog about this whole mess
http://www.consumerismcommentary.com/2008/01/28/economic-stimulus-tax-rebate-calculator/
there is still a lot of different variables in it...BOTTOM LINE...like a lot of others have said....you are really going to get NOTHING!...when you figure bread is at $2.95/loaf....gallon of milk is at $3.95...along with gas at $4.45/gallon...add to that kerosene....
the BEST thing you can buy now with your money is a really good SIPHON HOSE, like we did back in the 70s!!!!!
your STIMULUS check is worth ¢¢¢¢
define STIMULUS----any action that causes an activity in an organism....I really think we all MISUNDERESTIMATED that one!

Just heard on CNBC that there is a possibility they will rescind the rebates. Thinking is, it will not stimulate the economy as hoped!!

If they rescind those checks, they're going to have very angry citizens on their hands. I don't get one, but both my children do. By the time I take all my deductions for expenses, etc., my income is under $3,000.

They're also going to have some angry citizens on their hands when next year's tax time rolls around and people find out the "rebate" they got in 08 is subtracted from any refund they're due in 09. It's not a rebate at all, it's a prebate/ Either way, it's a loser.
