I normally don't have a problem selling international; I've shipped to customers all over the world. The pair of vases that I just sold are rather large and of course very fragile, so I decided to only sell to the U.S. When I did my listing here on Vendio, I made sure that I didn't have the international shipping checked and I unchecked the ship worldwide button. Of course, my buyer is in Spain. What is the proper way to handle this and do I see a neg in my future?

How large are they? I've shipped very large items international.
Can you double box them and still have the size be OK?

Packing them would not be a problem. It's just the "new eBay" that has me being very cautious. Plus it will cost $40 for shipping; more than the price he bid for the seller. A shipping cost DSR ding? On top of that, buyer's feedback is private.

I don't see what difference it make if it's international or not. Show the shipping on the package - you can't control that cost. Let him know that.
You can always give him the option to cancel the whole thing if shipping is too high. He probably already know it will be high anyway.

Thanks Beth. If I revise my requirements page on ebay and block international bidders, if I select will ship world wide, does this override the block for that particular auction?

It acts automatically depending what is in the listing. So as long as it is set to ship to the countries that I indicate I will ship to in EACH INDIVIDUAL auction, then that is what it will do.
If on one auction I say ship worldwide then it will let anyone bid.
On a second auction if I say US only, then US only.
AT LEAST...that is how it is supposed to work. Had this very problem myself with an item I wanted to ship only in the US.
I canceled the sale, filed a malicious bidder to get my fees back and relisted using the eBay criteria. He did not leave feedback.

I had this happen last week - I do tons of international shipping, but this one lot would have cost a fortune to ship overseas. Anyway, got an international buyer (not sure how they can bid if I say US only) and charged them a lot to ship the item. They paid almost immediately.
