"In an effort to improve the buying experience on ebay, we are making changes to the Item Page. We've listened to the needs of both buyers and sellers and are gradually rolling out a page that resembles the one you see below. This newer design helps drive inspiration, transparency of information, and helps improve overall ease and navigation. We hope that you'll like this change. Our goal is to ramp to a point where globally all Item Pages reflect this new design by end of 2008 or early next year."

I wonder if ebay will allow use of templates by third parties once the change has been completed.

We could very well be headed towards a "pasteurization" of the site. Every ad appears the same, building the ebay brand and diminishing our own brands.

The more that I read information regarding the item page, the more I am certain that we will all be required to use the ebay page rather that our own templates.

I guess the right word to use would be "homogenization." I wonder what that means for the ebays stores?

Also, I found this from an AuctionByte interview with Stephanie Tilenius, Senior Vice President and General Manager of eBay North America.

'When asked what she meant when she said earlier this year that eBay would not be the same site in a year, and it was moving toward a retail experience, Tilenius said she meant making it easier to shop on eBay. She used two examples, saying in the media category, they will use a catalog system. And in the clothing category, when a shopper searches for a particular purple blazer, "We'll show the blazer, not the listings." She said eBay wants to show a higher relevancy and precision in what they are showing shoppers.'

If true, that is really a YIKES!!!!

The new tabs with Shipping and Returns info is going to confuse the heck out of most buyers. We get a significant number of buyers that don't rerad the fine print all ready, but this makes it worse as such info isn't on the same page as the item details. I expect a huge increase in "What's it cost to zip code xxxx?" inquiries when the new interface is rolled out. Also a drop in DSRs for having 'hidden' costs (since they are on a different page or tab)... Smart thinking from the interface monkeys at eBay!

Cartoon. Head-on shot of an airliner. The co-pilot makes an announcement: "Folks, we're running into some turbulence."

Then the pilot yanks the control yoke all the way left, then all the way right.

Both pilots are grinning maniacally.

That is eBay, June 2008.

I don't see a tab or link, or Red Door to the seller's store.

Looks like they're no longer going to allow inline photos; you have to use eBay's sucky photo system, apparently. I hope I'm wrong about this.

If you have decent DSRs you can kiss them goodbye with the new item page. S/H information will be hidden from buyers and they won't be taking their displeasure out on eBay, uh-uh. The good news, if there is any, is that it will affect all of us equally.

I can't seem to get past number 1
on the linked page...

"1. Larger and more vibrant photos."

Keep thinking about how eBay clained they wanted to "return vibrancy" to the auction site.
Guess they figure this is the way to do it!

No red door? Maybe "onegreatseller" closed their store in the vibrancy days.

I read somewhere that as long as your template has "good" HTML, it will continue to be shown in the description part of the listing page. My template includes (usually) two larger images hosted by Vendio. I don't think this will change. It looks like the "Store Header" and the Store Navigation frame are history.

Also most of the image slide shows (Vendio, Auctiva) are "Flash" and those cannot be included in new listing - I assume Vendio has an alternative ready.

The page still has a rather hidden link to seller's store (no Red Door) - I blew up the page image and cropped so it's kind of fuzzy but you can see where the link to the store is:

Looks like our "one great seller" has a FB rating of 96% - some "great seller"!

Neglus... maybe it's eBay's way of trying to tell us what our feedback's going to look like now that they're encouraging negs/neutrals..

Also notice that under his ID is the phrase "Business Seller"....

Does this means sellers are going to get ranked in different categories? Like a Business Seller, a Part-Time Seller, A Hobby-Seller? If so... it seems like just one more thing to muck stuff up...

eBay is going to innovatively disrupt themselves out of business.

With every change to eBay I remember the adage don't fix it if it ain't broke.

For the longest time I have wanted to take my business somewhere else, but my auction and store data live in Vendio's system and are tailored for eBay exclusively.

I am a silver lever power seller
99.6% Feedback DSR 4.9, 4.9, 4.9 4.8

Any advise would be appreciated.

You qualify for a bigger discount if your shipping DSR is 4.9.

Sorry I just don't see the need for all this, but if they insist why not do a few changes at a time so everyone can catch up.
Looks like they are discouraging 3rd party listing service even if they aren't eliminating them all together.
Maybe it's time for Vendio to make the leap to being an auction site? I, for one, would love that.

VACATION TIME!!!

This doesn't sound good. eBay ready to roll out program in two weeks. Ebay "saying" they want the 3rd party vendors to roll with it...but;

Vendio comes back with "We will provide our input about this as soon as we have had a chance to evaluate the eBay changes."

This ain't gonna be pretty!!!!!
