Thanks so much for your help with calculated and fixed shipping on eBay! I've been messing with it today (sweating profusely, as I do whenever I have to do something new. Sad, isn't it.).

I went into my account, global preferences, and I *think* I filled out the blanks properly. To test it, I listed a knitting book, put in $2.79 media mail shipping, and the shipping amount is now showing up, which is great.

My last question to you: I filled in a markup for media mail of 50 cents; is there any chance that will be added in checkout? I don't want it to be added. Total shipping should be $2.79.

when you add that little "extra"...the buyer DOES NOT see it seperately...it is in their total media mail amount. So, if originally the item was $2.79 to ship, to the buyer it will appear as $3.29 for media mail. EACH item can have it's own "extra" s/h charge. If you are using Vendio, the amount is listed and you are able to adjust (just like with the weight).

Sorry - I wasn't thinking with my original reply. I don't think it adds the mark up if you use fixed rates - only if you calculate.
Let me double check that and get back with you.

Yes that's correct. I went to my other ID and there is no mark up added to my fixed rate except on the rare occasion when I use calculated - then and only then is the mark up add on.
See Roadsmith - we all have problems with this stuff.

I must tell you that I'm feeling TONS better about the media-mail end of this in my listings. I'm a little nervous about the extra work involved with the priority and 1st-class but will tackle all that latter this summer.

Sometimes I think there are teacher-types working for eBay who insist that, from time to time, eBay needs to gives us all take-home tests.

Okay, Ladyjewels! Next roadblock for me: I've always checked the "worldwide shipping" box.

And recently I've listed lots of things for "international site visibility" with no problems launching.

Suddenly tonight three of my book auctions wouldn't upload, with "error" messages (but of course NO hint exactly what my error is!). These are books on collecting antiques.

Exactly what do I need to bear in mind when offering international visibility? What should I have indicated in my global preferences? I thought I'd done it right, and so far most of my auctions went through. With one of the items with error messages, I unchecked the international visibility, and it did launch, so I'm pretty sure that's the source of my problems, somehow, but I'm in the dark.

I did doublecheck the auction descriptions to make sure I didn't have any naughty or forbidden words, like ivory or claw.

Hope this makes sense!

This is where SMPro is different - it doesn't seem to be as picky about what it will launch. I've scheduled stuff and then tried to edit on Vendio before it launches and I get all kinds of error messages.
I would think for international you want to use calculated - correct? So you will have to put in the weight and make sure all the boxes related to international are check, such as fixed or calculated - media - 1st class or priority. I think the most important one is the box that allows you to offer international shipping. Don't forget your mark up as well - you can set that up with Global preferences as well as your insurance etc.

Ladyjewels: Would it be possible for me to call you at some convenient time and ask you a few questions about all of this stuff? E-mail me through ASQ in one of my auctions, and I'll e-mail back. ~Adele (Roadsmith on eBay)
