Very weird the way these changes were announced! Ebay apparently issued a detail press release (or called up Ina?). There is no announcement on EBay except for the Town Hall on Friday, and yet here is this glossy, complete with Video, presentation :

maybe they're hoping to avoid the attention of regulators so they don't get shot down like they did in Australia...

They're despicable...

Should we bother to contact our congressman to complain about this latest change from Ebay? Does this action concerning Paypal only violate an Anti-Trust Act since Ebay owns Paypal and they are forcing us to accept Paypal or leave.

I'm sure that their argument would be that they're allowing users to also use ProPay or Merchant accounts.

The problem with that... is it eliminates ANY other option besides Paypal for the small-time seller. Both Merchant accounts and ProPay have either monthly or annual fees in addition to transactional fees. They are not a viable alternative to the average Joe that just wants to sell a few items every year... and not even a great choice for those selling a few items a week.

As a result, they are in essence, forcing Paypal to be the only option for that portion of sellers. I'm not usually in favor of government regulation... but eBay has gone unchecked for FAR too long.

YES, contact your local representative. I'm fortunate in that mine is Dennis Kucinich. I just shot an email off to him. I also suggested he look at PayPals TOS. We cannot sit back and allow this to happen. If eBay couldn't get away with it in Australia, they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it here!

I wonder how many buyers they will chase away. I have had many buyers who don't trust Paypal...and are more comfortable with sending a check or money order.

Getting your state and federal attorney generals involved would be a good idea as well.
