My 17 year old oven control board went out. It is around $300 to replace the control board. Would you buy new built in oven or replace the control board?

Just your thoughts pro's and con's.The oven is black glass, looks brand new high tech etc,. Only me and the Boss left at home, so I am only cooking on Holidays now, and a couple of times thru the week since all the kids are grown and gone.thanks

How about a counter top convection oven. I used to have one & you can do everything with it & I do mean everything that you can do with a convential oven. There not expensive either.

If counter space is a problem then I would fix it since you say it's good looking & hi tech.
I would imagine a new built it oven with removal, wireing & installation could be a bit expensive.

Best bet, look around & compare one price to another.

this is a no brainer for me

17 years? it's TIME for a new one.

girlfriend - you're WORTH it! either that or I'd be saying we'll go out to eat...a LOT.

number one investment in a house is your kitchen hands down. don't you watch those remodeling shows? spend your money in your kitchen and your bathrooms. unless you're checking into a nursing home in the next couple of weeks or something.

ummm. not to be obvious but have you checked eBay? you can use that nifty little feature where you can search within so many miles? so many people are ripping out their old appliances and replacing them with stainless steel you might can get a "like new" for almost nothing.

I bought all our appliances off eBay - the whole kitchen, washer, dryer and 52" LCD TV from one seller. We had to drive an hour and an half but the savings more than made up for it.

I didn't realize how much difference the front load washer (and dryer) made until I used the "old" kind last week when we visited the kids and I used theirs. Wow. Sure don't miss the top loader technology anymore.

glassgrl,
My friend just tried a front loader washer and she said she wasn't impressed (Bosche - sp). She said she had dropped a sock but had already started the machine so she couldn't add it and when the load was done the clothes were very tangled. Has this been your experience?

made a mistake!

no I have an LG. IF the load has gone TOO long you won't be able to stop it and add anything - otherwise you can add things.

I'm amazed at how many things you can stuff in there though. I haven't had the tangle problem

What was funny was this was advertised as having been used once. The problem was they never removed the shipping bolts so they returned it as *defective* LOL. If you don't remove the shipping bolts it bucks I don't what in the spin cycle! It took me about a minute to figure it out and shut it down.

The newer appliances have become so much more energy efficient it is almost always better to replace an appliance over 3 years old than to fix it. What the new one can save you in electric costs makes up for the cost. Also, any money put in to upgrade your kitchen is money well spent. If you were to sell your home, you get 90% back with kitchen upgrades (in terms of increased selling price).

I'm renovating an older Victorian home, so I've replaced alot of stuff here. I've researched the prices for everything - it has always ended up that either Home Depot or Lowes have the best prices for appliances - most of the time Lowes, depending on what specials are being run at the time.

Just to mention, I did have price comparisons with Ebay and Amazon as well, and HD and Lowes beat them almost every time.

well I will admit there are some stoves that are vintage that should be restored rather than scrapped. I think ohmslucy has one. Rachel Ray's stove is a Chambers and they still sell for pretty good prices on eBay in good shape.

Where would you get a great deal on a 6 burner stove?

Don't forget to find a competitor's coupon for Lowe's on ebay. You can save up to 20% on purchases!!!

The coupons are generally Home Depot coupons that were already used at Home Depot, but Lowe's will honor them.
