I called eBay yesterday about editing all my store listings to remove the check and money order option, and they told me I could do it in bulk through Turbo Lister. I finally have it downloaded ( problems because I list on 2 differerent sites). They told me on eBay that I could change things in the description in bulk, but I can only find "Add to bottom of description". Can anyone help me to be able to delete from the description in bulk please?

You can bulk change the payment options (that appear at the bottom of your listings) through Turbo Lister easily. Supposedly there is a find and replace function (there is a drop down menu on the upper right corner) but I tried it and while it said it was making 8500 replacements and slowed my computer to a crawl while it was synching - none of the changes were made. I tried to replace "money order" with " " (blank) and I used the "text in HTML" option. I think I will try using "PayPal" and text only next time and see if it works. In other words - I can't really help you because it didn't work for me . If I figure it out, I will let you know.

I am certain exporting your TL inventory to a spread sheet and editing from there would work but I don't know how to do that. If anyone feels brave enough to walk us through that (Christopher from Vendio - can you help?) it would be appreciated!

Fluff in an earlier post explained that you can export from Turbolister to a CVS file, find and replace in Excel, then import back to Turbolister, then synch with eBay.

Blank stare here - I don't know how to do any of those things. I think I once got as far as exporting to CSV and downloading to excel but after that??

Once you have the CSV (comma separated values) file from TL, you import it into Excel.

Then do a global search and replace to remove the offending verbiage. Save the file, export it, then import it into TurboLister.

It goes without saying that before you export the CSV file from TurboLister you do a TL database backup. And once you've got the CSV file you make a copy. When you export the modified CSV file from Excel, make another copy. You probably won't need any of the copies but you'll be able to back out if disaster strikes.

Another option is to make a practice run using a smaller dataset from your TL database. Once you feel comfortable manipulating a small number of records, you can do the whole thing.

Thanks Fluff - I will try in the wee hours when I don't have anything else to do on computer. I was horrified to see how slowly the last synch ran - I couldn't even scan at the same time.

Well, I am sorry but I just read your instructions, Fluff and I started to giggle!

I know that YOU know what you are doing but I could not even begin to start on something like that.

Luckily I have changed most of mine manually over the past while by doing a few at a time. I am lucky???? that I only have about 200 to cope with so I certainly feel for all of you who have large numbers to deal with.

I'm with you otteropp, I don't think I could do what Fluffy is suggesting, I am just not that computer literate. I have starting editing one-by-one using Turbo lister. It takes a long time, but is much quicker that directly on eBay, plus I can edit auctions where I have sold several items in the same listing. I just hope this is the last change for a while!!

OMG what a headache. Fluff, for the life of me I cannot import the CSV file into a spread sheet, the titles import but the html tends to screw things up on the first record. ('ve tried both large batches, which closed up my computer and small batches). If I remember correctly, I had this same problem when Cash was an issue, was able to work around it with wordpad, but didn't use it - sigh... OTH, I was able to find and replace words in the description of store items only in TL. Since I am practicing with old data only, I've not synched it with eBay. Neglus, were you able to replace verbage in TL for store listings that did not synch to eBay or did you check core items only?

Supposedly I was able to find "money order" and replace with " " using the search and replace function. TL said it changed 8500 store items. But nothing changed in my listings after the synch. It tied up my computer for hours - so I can't use it when I need to work. Maybe tonight before I go to bed I will try it again.

Did you check store vs core listings?

I tried store (all of my Core items are listed correctly). I am currently working on Search and replace for 10 store items - It would only take one line of text so I am simply substituting "Pay Pal" for checks and money orders. It's synching now ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ (while I was at it I added return policy and handling time to the revisions.) I will let your know....

I got it to work on those 10 - looks kind of stupid but at least there is no reference to checks or money orders so they can't end the listings. Trying it on 103 now.

Yikes! I may be revising them all - last night when I highlighted a group of 100 items I could search and replace within that group only. I just highlighted 200 to edit and did the "search and replace all" (I swear that's exactly what I did last night) and now the dang thing is replacing 7800! I hope it's doing it right!

I looked at the HTML as shown on TL and copied it and then took out the personal checks and money order bullets.

I replaced

I accept the following forms of payment: <ul><li>PayPal<li>Money Order<li>Personal Check</ul>

with this:

I accept the following forms of payment: <ul><li>PayPal</ul>

Cross your fingers

It did it right! I spot checked some of the items revised (highlighted a single item - clicked to edit, and then looked at the WYSIWYG version of the description) and the change was made correctly. I am a little scared that something else will morph and create problems when I synch. I am going to try to add handling time and refund policy while I am at it and make sure the shipping is right. This is going to be one massive synch!

neglus: As I said yesterday, I just download TL for the first time, so it's all new to me. I can't find any way to change and replace a word in the description. All I can find is the long list of all my auctions.
Also, how can I find one particual auction without trying to look through the whole list?

Would this info be of any help

Revising your listings

How will sellers be able to revise their listings to meet the new requirements?
Sellers will be able to revise listings in three ways using eBay's tools:

1. Revise them individually (listing by listing) using Sell Your Item (SYI) or your favorite listing tool.
2. Revise them in bulk using our Bulk Edit tool, which is available in My eBay and Selling Manager. You can revise 10 listings at a time in My eBay or up to 200 at a time for Selling Manager.
3. Revise them in bulk using Turbo Lister.

What happens to my listings when the requirement for specifying a return policy goes into effect?
If you've already specified a Return Policy and handling time in your listings, those listings will meet the new requirement and nothing more needs to be done. However, when the requirement goes into effect, there will be a way for you to specify a more granular return policy, or you can keep you existing policy "as is."

What about existing Good 'Til Cancelled (GTC) and Selling Manager Pro templates?
We recommend that you revise your Good 'Til Cancelled (GTC) listings and Selling Manager Pro templates as soon as possible, so they are not blocked when the requirements go live. This can be done one listing at a time with Sell Your Item (SYI) or in bulk using the Bulk Edit tool or Turbo Lister as noted above. If you don't revise your items or templates and they are not compliant with our policies, they will either not renew on the next renewal cycle (for GTC items) or their automation rules will fail (for Selling Manager Pro templates) until you correct the issue.

What about revising Multi-Quantity Store Inventory Format items that have a sale?
At this time, you can add a shipping service or lower your shipping costs for multi-quantity Good 'Til Cancelled listings with a sale. We will be enabling sellers to add a return policy and handling time to these listings in early September, so sellers who have these items in their Stores should wait until early September to begin making updates (so they can do them all at once.)

It worked! I still have to synch but I was able to edit everything at once in addition to taking "money orders" and "checks" out of my listings.

Here is a step by step:
1) After you have downloaded TL2 and synchronized, your items you should have a listing of all your active inventory.

2) Sort inventory by format by clicking on the "Format" column. You can only change items of the same format (can't mix Store, FP, and auction). I also sorted by starting date so I could find them easier in Sales Manager to verify changes were being made.

3) Highlight the items you want to change. If you are doing a large contiguous group, hold down "CTRL" & "SHIFT" and click on first item and then scroll to last item and click on it. The whole range of items should be highlighted in blue.

4) Click on "EDIT" button in top tool bar.

5) you can then edit all of the things that need fixing. If you use vendio, you will need to add "handling time". That is found under "SHIPPING OPTIONS". You will also want to add "RETURN POLICY" and change "PAYMENT METHODS". Even though the Payment methods will show just PayPal, you will have to click on "PAYMENT OPTIONS" to take out money orders and checks (this is the Payment information shown at the bottom of your listings in the EBAY part).

Save all of your changes.

If you need to revise your description to take out payment options in the body of your item description you will need to do a "SEARCH AND REPLACE".

1) If you are revising the Vendio Payment table:
a. you will need to get the HTML for the table. Highlight one of the items and click on "edit". You will have to look through the HTML in the description to copy and paste. I tried to do this from one of my listings but it didn't work - best to copy right from TL. I copied the HTML :*little box* <ul><li>PayPal<li>Money Order<li>Personal Check</ul>*little box* (the *little box* is something I can't replicate here - it is something you will see in HTML in TL - Just copy the first box and all the HTML and then the little box at the end)

b) There is a little magniying glass in upper right corner of TL. Click on that for a drop down menu. Select "Search and Replace".

C) paste the HTML that you want to change in top box. Select "Search for exact phrase"

d) paste the HTML you want to change in the bottom box AND CHANGE IT the way you want it to appear. Mine was *little box*<ul><li>PayPal</ul>*little box*

e) Select "Search in HTML"

f) click on "replace all".

Note TL may act like it is frozen or about to crash while it searches.

If you are wanting to replace other text in your description, you can just copy the text from one of your listings (no need to get HTML) and paste old text in top box and new text in bottom box and select "search text only".

I recommend clicking on a few of the listings and selecting the "edit" function so you can take a peek to make sure the changes went through. You can click on "description builder" to see your description in "WYSIWYG" format.

When you are all done making changes and verifying that they went through, press the "Synchronize" tab in tool bar.

This can take a LONG time and takes a lot of system resources. Perhaps it is best to do this when you aren't going to be using the computer. I found that the synch pauses when I try to use another application.

GOOD LUCK!
