Since we are talking about bidders, I have a guy who bought two mugs - he says they are chipped, I know they were not but wrote and told him I would refund his cost and shipping - just send them back. He says he won't return them, but he wants a refund anyway! I should just put it in his Paypal account and he will keep the mugs because he says "it is not worth my trouble to send them back." By the way, his feedback is private - I have written to eBay about this problem but so far have not had an answer. I wonder if he would ask Penneys or Walmart or any other store to just give him his money back and let him keep the merchandise! So far I have sent one polite response, but I haven't answered his last email because I am still trying to hold my temper and be NICE.
ARGHH!!!

Jane, were the mugs high dollar amounts?

davidsmom - I think I know what you are getting at and even if the price was small, the bidder should not keep the item and get a refund. JMHO
I think we will all see many bidders doing their Christmas shopping "FREE" on ebay this year.
Offer to pay return shipping and if it's still too much trouble - ask for a photograph of the damage. I bet that will be the last you hear from him.

Are you absolutely, positively, 100% certain the mugs were not chipped or could not have possibly been chipped in transit?

If not, stop reading here.

If so, he's trying to steal from you. Don't worry about being nice. You should be polite but save nice for the decent people.

Since he is trying to steal from you, all bets are off. Offer him a full refund upon return of the mugs and confirmation of your secret seller's mark. I'm sure you use one, right?

He'll either disappear or say no. If he says no, let him take it to PP.

You should also report him to eBay. They are cracking down on buyers for this crap. (Unless you already did and that's what you meant by "I have written to eBay." )

Edited to remove unintentional smilie.

Yep, I offered him a full refund including shipping. He still won't send the mugs back.

Sounds like he's a scam artist. He knows he can give you a negative and you can't give him one in return. He probably also knows that paypal may refund his money if he files. He does really need to be reported to ebay. Save all of your emails and hopefully it all came by way of ebay message system.

That's what paypal is setting sellers up for.
Games that buyers will play. I would release your anger on this buyer and ebay. Time to stand up for doing the right thing.

I've only had this happen to me a couple of times and, in all instances, when I mention that I verify that the item I receive is the same as the one I sent (using my secret mark), the customer decided to keep the item. For me, this has worked 100% of the time. However, I've NEVER had anyone who wanted to keep the item AND receive a refund! That takes a set of big ones IMHO!
