i way back, when on eBay a buyer had to initiate a cancellation for a bid. can a buyer initiate a cancellation for a purchase? if so how?

i have had two buyers recently ask to cancel purchases, both have been a significant price (about $200 each).

I am really getting annoyed by the fact i have to start the process and wait for their approval to end the transaction. It is bad enough I have waited 5-6 days after an item has ended for them to decide to back out.

The last buyer gave me one of the lamest excuses. She claimed she purchased one item from me, and he daughter liked them so much that she purchased 2 whole sets without her permission. Nice eh? She paid for the one box, a whole $17 order. She failed to pay for the two sets ($97 each order). Of course, she didn't bother to let me know this a week ago. Only after she received an unpaid item warning.

i added her to my block list. i figure, if she tries to buy more and sees she is blocked, she will at least email me to inquire why. i won't hesitate to explain to her my concerns that she has no control over the use of her account by others.

As a seller I will never initiate a cancellation unless there is such a good reason the buyer has such a good imagination that he should have his reason patented / copyrighted, in other words so believable and unique that I have never heard the excuse in 14 years on Ebay. It he cannot come up with that, I wait and do an unpaid dispute and then finalize it with a FVF request / credit. If I want to sell the item, I am not canceling. They should at least have a smear on their record for not completing a deal that they entered into. I do not want it looking like I want to cancel the deal if it is the buyer that wants to back out.

I do not know if Ebay even keep track of nonpayers any more, but I am not going to cancel a deal unless I want to cancel. Before the item ends, they can cancel their bid, so that is their option to weasel out if they do not have a really, really creative excuse when the deal is done.(Of course, FP does not have bids.)

There are cases where sellers initate cancellation-when seller cannot locate the item, item already sold ,item has been broken or damaged or seller just does not want to sell the item.
Reasons behind such could be a flood, fire, break in or just final bid amount too low, call it seller remorse.

hwahwa, that is exactly my POINT, if I NEED to cancel as a seller, I WILL, but not if the BUYER wants to cancel.

she accepted the cancellation, but never responded with the email she sent. i am not surprised.

merrie- i normally don't accept cancellations either... At the time when I sent her the combined invoice for the two items totaling $200 I didn't realize she also purchased a single item for $17. She paid for this, I packed and shipped it the same day.

The only reason I let her back out was because I didn't want her taking out any frustrations on that single $17 transaction for the two larger items she didn't pay for.

My hands were a bit tied on this, though they shouldn't be. I played it safe, even though she can still leave bad feedback or low dsrs on the one transaction, she is less likely to do so. I guess I was passive aggressively blackmailed. lol.
