This is a message I got from a guy who wanted me to ship to an "alternate address" not listed on ebay. What would you do?

Dear 5000modelkits,

I think I requested an alternate shipping address. I am personally offended that you chose not to honor said request, for two reasons. first, as a matter of convenience and courtesy to your customer, and second, as a personal affront to my character, suggesting that I would possibly rip you off for a $10 item. Now I have been an ebayer for years, and had an account with similar numbers to yours. I went out of my way to accomodate my clientele, and I don't want to hear about buyer and seller protection, or other nonsense. with your numbers, you realize there is no seller protection, or anything close to it. and over a $10 item?? You could have suggested that I list an alternate ship to with paypal, but instead only that you were shipping to the paypal address. I have to leave you feedback for this exchange, what should I leave? I will probably cut you slack only because I believe in karma, and I certainly am far from perfect. Next time, I suggest more courtesy, less fear over losing $10

Customer signature

I shipped to the address on the pay pal account PERIOD. I do NOT know this guy from adam, he is NOT a regular customer, and it is indeed a $10 item. I am saving the email just in case he negs me. Does this qualify for ebay/paypal to override a negative?

Many sellers are not willing to ship to an alternative address, why didnt't he ask you first before he bids?

Probably not, but persue it with eBay if you do get a neg.

Over the years I have had maybe a dozen or more requests from customers to send the item to a different address did so with no problem.
Two in the last couple months, one of those was to the dreaded PO Box, got nice thank you emails from both customers.

In hind sight, just return his money and cancel the transaction instead of shipping to his confirmed address, then he cannot give you a neg.
This could be a gift to someone, and by shipping to his confirmed address,he would have to pay shipping the item to the gift recipient.
$10 may not mean much to him,but it could buy you a meal in a restaurant,2 rotisserie chickens in a supermarket or 2 1/2 gallons of gas at the gas station!

I've had numerous requests around the holidays to ship to a different address. They are gifts and it saves them shipping. No problems at all

It only takes one case to make you change your mind-say the package is missing or stolen, and you the seller loses!

I've only had this situation once. That was more than enough.
Sold a $159.00 item to a PA buyer. Invoiced him and he emailed me back to ask that I ship it to FL. I refused nicely and explained why. His next email accused me of not trusting him. I again explained why I couldn't ship to FL. His next email accused me of being a crook. I filed NPB, and he made some stupid statements in return. To this day I still don't know how he was able to leave feedback, as he never paid for the item. Feedback was a nasty neg of course.
Luckily, all emails were thru eBay, so the person I called at eBay was able to see what was going on. I had the feedback removed.

I only ship to addresses listed on PayPal. They do not need to be confirmed any more. If someone asks me to ship to a different address, I politely respond, that I will be happy to refund their payment and they can repay with the correct "ship to" as the address they want the item shipped.

It has only happened a few times, but the buyer has always been willing to do this. Sometimes it is a gift, sometimes they say they have moved and forgot to change their address with PayPal. I does cost about 30 cents now to refund a payment, where before PayPal did not take a "cut" if you refunded, but the peace of mind is worth it to me.

I think it has to depend on the amount. For a $10 item I would and have shipped to another address.
For $150,I'd ask that they add the address to paypal - it only takes a few seconds. They can always remove it after it's shipped.
