I have been noticing sellers do not insure the item, and in some cases dont even use signature confirmation when item is over $250.
Are they being careless?too confident or too cheap or not making enough ?

If they are doing their labels on ebay - it doesn't show insurance even if they purchased it.
As for signature confirmation - maybe they aren't aware they need it or they think insurance is enough. Wrong!!

I just have a case where a 375 dollars item is shipped with just DC,no signature confirmation,no insurance.
The seller has been selling since 2003 and claimed items worth a few thousand dollars have been shipped with no problem.
He is not aware you need signature confirmation for items over 250 to qualify for seller protection and that seller cannot ask buyer to pay for insurance.
DC shows it was delivered on Sept 28 and I dont have it.
If my neighbor has the item,he would have notified me by now, whoever has the item is now 375 dollars richer!

I shipped overseas packages with no online tracking,it just cost too much for small item, but I will insure the item with online private insurer and most buyers will co-operate and sign the form except one case where a UK buyer who sent me poor pictures of how items are damaged refused to sign!

My customers or causual lookers are never going to know if the item is insured or not. That info does not show up on the invoice / bill sent to them.
But, if its valued at 40 bucks or more it is insured and they have paid the fee.

hwahwa, if item was scannes as delivered, insurance would not pay for it anyway but yes, it should have had sig confirmation. Have you contacted your local post master and complained about stolen mail yet? That would be my next step.

perhaps your mailman remenbers delivering it? It has been my experience that the local Pm takes these stolen mail claims pretty seriously.

Well,I showed the DC page from USPS website to my mail lady and she said it has been 2 weeks and she does not recall?
Then I did some detective work and found another item worth more was also scanned the same day same time as this lost one and made it in my mail box ,it was the only package I received that day and it has no signature confirmation either.
So it is the draw of luck that both sellers did not use signature confirmation, shipped priority with DC and one made it and the other one must have landed in my neighbor mail box and made him a happy man!
The seller called me twice and said he has called his post office and the post office urged him to report it to our local police as they do take mail fraud seriously.
I dont want to file the report as it would get my postman into trouble,it is obviosu she misplaced the package, besides how is the police going to recover the item?Knocking on door of each of my neighbor?
If he wants to call,he may do so,after we ended the conversation,he called Ebay around midnight and won the dispute?
So I appealed and ask Ebay to read their own seller protection -anything over 250 requires signature confirmation.
I finally won the case,Ebay admitted they made a mistake .
Now if one of these sellers have used signature confirmation,my mail man will bring both packages to my door, unfortunately neither did,one is lucky and the other lost !
Signature confirmation cost 1.90 on line and 2.60 in the post office.
As for the insurance denied if DC shows it has been delivered, how can you say that if 20 houses in a subdivision share a mail station and the mail man use his key and open all the mail boxes at the same time/
Ditto with apt buildings, they can open all mailboxes with just one key?

As a seller, I always file a stolen mail claim any time a customer informs me they did not receive a package that has been scanned as delivered. It does not happen often, about 2 to 3 times a year out of 2500 or so packages. But the annoyance is enough to make me take some action.

If you have a neighbor keeping mail that was put in his box by mistake then he most certainly should be taken to task for it.

As for your delivery lady, she won't get into trouble. Mail is misdelivered all the time. But opening and or keeping mail that is not addressed to you is a crime and as such should be prosecuted.

Instead of giving the seller a hard time over his lack of purchasing sig confirmation why not spend some of that energy cleaning up your neighborhood?

I hope the seller contacts your local police and opens a theft investigation.

One case I had many years ago was for a $50 baseball bat. I really did not care about losing the bat but it really ticked me off that some jerk customer thought he could steal from me and get away with it. I hounded a South Carolina sheriffs department so much that they finally looked into the guy and eventually busted him on stolen credit cards, mail fraud and whole list of other offenses.

Anyone who sells on Ebay and accept Paypal payment should know the basic rules,a seller who has been selling since 2003 and claimed to have shipped items worth thousand of dollars with no signature confirmation ,no insurance is like the cliff diver in some Mexican tourist town along Gulf of Mexico playing with his life daily,he may as well make his fortune in Las Vegas!
As to cleaning up the neighborhood,I will leave it to you and Rich Perry!

I thought you were a seller too so I am surprised that you defend the local thieve and burn the seller at the stake.

I do understand your point about the sc. yes, seller should have purchased it and I should hope you certainly taught him a lesson. Just saying that if I were the seller, I would not just pay up and shut up. I would be raising some serious dust in Houston.

As for Perry, y'all can keep him in Tx. That boy rides a horse with 2 southbound ends. Can't hardly believe he kept getting re-elected in TX and I hope to heck he doesn't get elected nationally. Haven't decided which devil I will vote for but I do know the ones I won't.

WOW,What do we have here?St.joan of Arc ?
Local thief and hardworking seller?
How about bimbo seller ,it is not me who taught him a lesson,it is Ebay seller protection policy!
Two sellers shipped without signature confirmation and one made it and one did not, just happens this one did not, what is it to you,you wanna compensate him for his loss,BE MY GUEST!
As for reporting to local police,it would be a waste of time,16 days has gone by,whoever has the item would have returned it long ago !
Yes,I am protecting my mail man, given the situation with the post office, plenty of layoff and paycut,no one wants to look bad !

Years ago,I used to write my own shipping labels and use the green DC slip.
I shipped 4 small boxes to one buyer and decided to skip the DC for one box.
I received a phone call from her who said she did not get one,the one with no DC,then she went down my open listings and picked out 2 most saleable items as replacement.
Nothing I can do,I accept responsibility for not using DC ,I did not file any police report ,she was later suspended for not making payments on items she won from me and other sellers !
I have been selling since 1996,I dont whine and whine about how hard working I am,or why didnt Ebay tell me I should use DC or blame everyone but myself for the loss?
Just today, a Brazilian buyer claimed she did not get her item, and I have to ship her a replacement as I did not use signature confirmation as it would be too costly.I know it could happen and it is a low price item and I gladly ship another ,my other option is to refund her payment in full, such is life in big city !
