For the last week I've been getting spam for all different things but they have two things in common. They are from different names with Yahoo addresses, and they are addressed to me with copies sent to as many as 20 other AOL members. They also say "Below is the result of your feedback form. It was sumitted by (the Yahoo member)and the date." There are two emails one with the advertisement and one that is in html code (is that what you call it?)
How can I stop these? I've gotten as many as five a day.

I don't remember if they have a spam filter thing on AOL or not.

We were getting them so much on the business email, from Yahoo, that my partner finally replied he was interested in whatever it was, and got to talk to him on the phone, that is where he told him where to go with the BS spam, and since he had his number talked to the supervisor, and it did stop.
Then there was a hotmail one, that he did some kind of loop thing with his email, where it automatically sent it back to them, that stopped them also.

But, you don't need to go that far, there must be some kind of place like
[email protected] or something that you can insist that they cease their spam, giving the senders email address.

I've written to AOL, and have sent all of them to "Tosspam". I've emailed a few of the yahoo senders and asked them where they got these addresses, and also what the heck is the "feedback form". Of course I haven't gotten any responses.
Why are they all from Yahoo to all AOL?

krs - I think they have low fat now.

chococake, there seem to be two major classes of SPAMMERS.

The first is the one that has your email address and sells it to unsuspecting businesses that want to advertise on the Internet. I say unsuspecting, because they always sell your e-mail and others as "pre-qualified", meaning that you have been identified as needind or are interested in their product. Of course, that's a lie.

The other is the unsuspecting business that gets it's ISP account shut down for SPAMMING those "pre-qualified" email addresses.

How I handle them depends on which ones are sending me their crap.

The ones selling the e-mail address often send out their own SPAM as well. They aren't stupid and don't use their real domain e-mail address and instead, send it from a hotmail, yahoo, or uunet account or some such. For these folks, I forward their emails to the Federal Trade Commission. Just forward it to [email protected] . Geting a hotmail account closed is like swatting at flies, because they have a hundred more waiting to be abused. Eventually, the FTC may decide to crack down on them and when they do, they slam them HARD!

The unsuspecting ones are stupid: they use a real e-mail address from their business ISP account. It's easy - and fun, to get their account shut down. What you do is to go to this address and sign up: [url=http://www.spamcop.com]SpamCop[/url .

You will then get a confirmation e-mail from SpamCop. Click the linkin the emaiol that reports offenders at SpamCop. Once there, bookmark that address. That's the one you're going to use.

Next, open up a SPAM and go View Contents/Source. That allows you to see all the HTML code as well as all of the header materials that they need. Then just Copy the code and go to the SpamCop link and paste it into the report window. Then click the Submit button.

What happens next is that you'll get a chance to see how they've tracked down the ISP and will give you a chance to include any additional messages to the offender's ISP. Here's one I keep in a txt file:

| |
| | HELP! THIS SPAMMER IS AT WAR WITH ME FOR GETTING SEVERAL
| | OF HIS ACCOUNTS DELETED FOR ENDLESSLY SPAMMING ME! THE
| | E-MAIL HERE IS THE EXACT ONE SENT TO ME EVERY DAY FROM
| | THIS SAME SPAMMER! THIS IS H-A-R-S-S-M-E-N-T, NOT
| | ADVERTISING ON THE INTERNET!
| |
| | IF THIS IS AN ACCOUNT ON YOUR SERVER, PLEASE TRACK DOWN
| | AND DELETE ALL ACCOUNTS AND BLOCK HIM FROM FUTURE ACCESS.
| | USUALLY, HE SENDS SPAM THROUGH A HOLE IN YOUR SYSTEM;
| | SUCH AS AN OPEN MAIL RELAY. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SYSTEM!
| | ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN DO WILL BE A BIG HELP.
| | THANKS!
| |

That usually covers all bases and gets the account closed. The Spammer will have to pay to re-open the account. I also forward their Spam to [email protected] as well.

hope that helps you.

chococake - I usually just delete it...much quicker. But when I keep receiving spam from the same source, I hit reply to view the ISP it's coming from. Then I forward the spam to abuse@(whatever the ISP is).

But in your case, I'd probably use the SpamCop site. Many have shared it takes care of the problem post haste.

They do have a "low" fat version now (which I've affectionately nicknamed Splite), but it has all the salt and preservatives, and so tastes just as wonderful fried up with a half a dozen or so cholesterol filled eggs.

Be still my heart!

I look forward every year to our annual Spam Cook-off, and keep threatening to enter a Splasagna.

Choice of FREE or 12.50 per year.
Then BLOCK the sender, or create a message rule by going to MESSAGE on your Email Menu Bar. You click on it, scroll down to "Create Rule From Message"...and select the rule you want to apply.

The simplest is to "Delete" Message containing PEOPLE ...then the name of the sender will pop up. Next, is "...When SUBJECT LINE" contains...you can then specify what was in the SUBJECT LINE of the Email...

Thanks so much for starting this thread. I've been getting spam messages with this as a subject "We charged it to your Visa". The message in the email is this: This is Cindy Remember me from school? I thought you might want to see what I look like now so I had these pictures and videos made. After the message there's a link that you can click on that looks like it leads to a sleazy sex site. However, I don't know for sure because I'm not clicking on it.
Thanks to you guys this one got reported.

gravid,

I live near Roslyn, WA. Every year there is a Manly Man Festival with a SPAM cook off. There are also bed races, tool belt competition, cow "patty" throwing, a vintage car parade, and of course a queen, who's judged on an essay, not looks. (This year's said under her reign, there will be no male whining allowed. It's all tongue-in-cheek as you may have guessed.)

Interesting note: Based on SPAM guidelines (Hormel) - you can't carve spam into shapes for the contest.

Hey kept2much- I get that same spam about once a week. I doubt that either of us know little Cindy YooHoo!

I'm getting a ton of emails with the sircam virus. I've caught them all so far, but I'm getting LOTS of them. I never even had a problem with the I love you virus, so I'm on high alert with spam right now.

Splasagna? Ewwww...
