Okay, so this is probably a stupid question to many of you.
Jumping in head first, I really wonder...
Who are these Newbies who attack other Posters?
Why Do They Bother? What is The Deal?
I just don't get it.
Specifically, I am referring to the constant unwarranted attacks in The EO.
I understand most of what happens at The RT. I usually rationalize it as being borne of the strong opinions and beliefs that we post and the sometimes heated banter. That's life.
To clarify for anyone who cares to respond:
Who is it that has such a strong need to assault Posters that are in search of help/opinions/guidance/experience?
Why does it happen so frequently?
Any insight is appreciated....

Hey There Big Bad BarryBarris!
Who's Minding The Bar???
I know that they are not really newbies, the part I don't get is why they ridicule and mock other posters who may be wonderful additions to AW.
Why do they try to scare everyone away?

The internet was a godsend for argumentative people.

Which thread(s) are you referring to, zoomin?

I think I have posted in EO twice, and dont go there often. Blessing in disguise, methinks.

Notice how some people complain about the very thing they're guilty of themselves?

...for Shosh and the other lynch members.

Kraft, ?

Shosh and lynch members? Did I miss something?

Who's complaining?

Zoomin:

How people react on-line often is related to what is going on in their real life and how happy they are with that life.

It also relates to self-esteem. Some people can't handle criticism from others because their sense of self-worth is based on how they think others (including strangers) view them. You often see that in the EO when one poster will bristle up just because another poster (a complete stranger) states they would have handled an auction transaction differently. If you think you've handled a transaction well, why would you care if a complete stranger thinks differently (unless the stranger was a customer or potential customer)?

It is rather odd that in the on-line world so many posters become upset because they don't get 100% approval from everyone posting about how to run an on-line business. Yet, in the real world, I bet they don't expect that same amount of approval from strangers - bet they don't care either.

No complaining being done here. Just seeking insight.
Was your post an attempt to prove my point?
No guilt here, either.
This is my only ID.
Actually, this ID was created after I was "assaulted" at the EO myself.
Dumb thread newbie using my real (eBay) name to post.
I have never Bashed anyone for asking questions or reaching out for help.
Not intentionally, anyway.
Helen thinks I'm someone else.
She did for a while, anyway.
{{{Hep}}}
Just like here, identities are created for the purpose of attack.
I can understand it at the RT, people get frustrated when they cannot make themselves clear or they're stubborn & closed minded or opinionated. We talk about "stuff" here. Politics, religion, values, morals, current events, dreams, sex, whatever.
At the EO, it is mostly a factual sharing of experience. A "hey this never happened before, what do I do? " or "did you know this could be?". Raising awareness of facts, so-to-speak.
Over at the EO, I'm not sure why Posters "hide" to "assault" someone who is either looking to share or seeking guidance.
Does that help the question make sense?
(miss ya!)

zoomin,

If you are referring to a specific thread or poster, please let us know. It would probably be best not to mention specifics here, but you may contact the Mod Team at [email protected] or any specific moderator at our email address which you can find by clicking on our IDs.

Hope this helps.

I think the EO attacks are a combination of people working at home alone, having little or no interaction with peers, and this being a convenient outlet for their frustrations.

That, and everybody in this business is a friggin know-it-all. You see that latter element even at flea markets and antique shows where bozos you never met before feel compelled to walk up to your table and tell you -- in their expert opinion -- your goods are overpriced, or aren't authentic, or are trash, etc.

But getting back to this being an outlet: Having a bad day? Feel like you need more attention? Go to EO and accuse someone of being an idiot. It's bound to result in an argument and maybe provide an afternoon's worth of amusement.

[ever notice when you're editing a post, the text above the edit form reads: "While editting a post, please continue following the Community Guidelines. All posts will be displayed as having been edited by you." Hilariously, editing is spelled with two t's!]

We do get some real "Troll" posts in the EO. Some come in with new ID's and say some of the most outlandish things, and basicly call EVERYONE a thief and a cheat. When ever I see a totally off the wall post in the EO, I check to see how "new" the ID is. Often it is newborn, first post.

zoomin...good grief! It wasn't meant for you personally!

I mouthed off in the Condit thread and pre-judged some posters. My mouth-off was directed at people who I felt pre-judged Condit. Shosh was gracious enough to point it out to me and I thought it fit with your post.

Its so easy to misconstrue what is written as to what actually is meant, isnt it?

Stockticker & Spaz:
Yes! That is exactly what seems to happen! Many times those originating the thread are seeking reassurance (similar to a "boss" in RL). I think I'm used to being a "stroker" from being in management for so long. If I'm asked to help, there I am!
I guess the "others" remind me of people who demean others to inflate their self-esteem. The "esteemed colleague" who demands respect yet does nothing to earn it.
BTW, Silly Spaz, I very much like this new sense of humor you have found! An interesting twist!
Pattaylor:
I am honored to be addressed by you personally! Let's just consider this a general concept, okie doke?
Thanks for your concern
Microbes:
What you are referring to with the Troll posts is a familiar feeling. Maybe that is what some of my original question stems from.
I don't like feeling paranoid and "clicking" on a poster's history before I try to help someone. The Mommy in me loves to help when I can, the Woman in me detests being burned by some bored yutz.
kraft:
So glad it wasn't something I said (or something you thought you heard from me!). I guess Shosh pointed it out nicely ~ I don't even recall your "faux pas"!
See what I mean about that blasted paranoia?

Hep:
I wish I could write as eloquently as so many others here.
OTOH, often we listen but we do not hear. (To cover my Tush ~ that is a general statement ). The loopholes in communication get filled in so horribly wrong at times!
Thank you for the {{{Super Duper}}}.
smooooches to you, too!
