And now for a really important issue. I just bought three dress sirts as the local big and tall is going out of business (as are many stores in this town the last month) and had a 50% off sale.
Am I the only wierdo that goes home and cuts all the labels out before he will wear them?
They rub on my neck and drive me nuts.
Nice 22-36 shirts for $25.00.

This is an important issue!

Those tags - What do they print these things with, trick ink? When it gets to be about the time I've forgotten what size this thing is, and I go to check the tag, there's nothing there.

But the tag itself, sans writing, is still there, and will be long after the article of clothing is worn through. What do they make these tags out of? Where can I get clothing made from this ever-lasting tag material?

Nope, you're not alone....and I don't think it's wierd to do so. Once washed and ready to wear, those darn tags seem to take on a life (shape) of their own...and it's usually not lying flat.

Now, if you resold clothing items on ebay, you might want to leave the tags in.

The one's I get a kick out of are the people who don't remove the labels off pillows or bed mattresses, etc. because the tag says "Do not remove".

My oldest son, now 17, has ripped off each and every one of those tags since the time he was an infant....First he would play with them, twisting them in his fingers, then ultimately pulling them off, of course, leaving a nice hole in the collar of every shirt he owns. He JUST admitted (last week) that they scratch his neck & THAT's why he pulls them off....Would have been nice, and would have saved many a shirt, if he just told us earlier, so we could remove them without damaging the shirt!

Most of them don't bother me, but occasionally I get one that is not only scratchy but grabs and pulls out (NOT a nice feeling) hair from my tail....OUCH!!!!!

There ought a be a law...no scratchy labels, size must remain legible for the life of the garment, no color runs..(oh that was a real irritation) haven't had that happen in years.

LindaK I haven't looked lately but the
labels on pillows and mattresses used to say:Do Not Remove, Under Penalty of Law! of course that meant the stores weren't supposed to remove them...but...Mom never took 'em off either!!

Mornin' Zilvy - You're right and with the exact wording. And I'm certainly glad to hear your mother was a law abiding citizen. I know a lot of people thought that those words applied to them, rather than the retailer.

We used to kid her about the MATTRESS POLICE showing up!!
Rancher, have you noticed that those pesky tags don't show their mean side til you are out in public...and keep rubbing the back of your neck and getting irritated to the point where some innocent bystander makes you want to smack 'em cause they are breathing funny...only all the time it is just that dayum tag!?!?!?

They should put the tag somewhere else rather than the back of the neck. It has always bugged me though I've never cut off the tags.

I agree about the tags in the neckline of shirts. It is usually the thread used to sew the tag in, not the tag itself. Why do they have to use fishing line to sew these in?

As an aside...does anyone else wear their underware or socks inside out to avoid the seams? We switched to Gold Toe socks because of this, and I still sometimes wear my undies inside out cuz the seams drive me crazy. (I will deny I said this if anyone snitches or laughs)

I used to have a friend (see the Serial Bully thread) who's husband and oldest son would not wear a shirt with a placket down the front. They both claimed that the inside seam area and seam allowance drove them crazy. A placket, for those who don't know, is the area of button holes and buttons on the casual collared shirts such as Polo shirts.

Meya - I don't wear underwear so the seams don't bother me. Just having that extra layer was what bothered me. Gets all bunches up and is that much hotter. I do however wear pocket t-shirts inside out because the seam around the arm bothers me - I keep my paper money in the pocket and it is safe on the inside - and I cut metal on machines so if the pocket is inside it can't get metal chips in it.

Those labels drive me nuts on some of my shirts. All my turtlenecks are missing the labels.

Meya - I wear some of my socks inside out because the seam bothers my toes.

LindaK and zilvy - I had the same mom! She never took that tag off any any mattress's we owned. I used to tease her too about how she would have to explain to the other inmates, how she landed in the Big House.

There has been a few mornings that the tag in my shirt was the only reason I knew I had put it on backwards.

sometimes just clipping the corners off with a nail clipper is sufficient to solve the problem.

Is it unpatriotic to cut a "made in America" label? I just couldn't resist as every innocuous thread somehow turns political! LOL! I thought this thread might be flame-retardant!

I've warned my daughters to look at the tags on their babies' clothes. Sometimes I suspect that babies are crying because the tags hurt. Hope not, but still. . . .

And when my mother was in a nursing home, and I bought new clothes for her, I'd always double-check the tags because she wouldn't have known what was making her so uncomfortable. Some of us are more sensitive than others, I think. I hate to wear long-sleeves because I don't like how they feel on my wrists--cuffs or not. Especially in nighties and pjs.

Oh Adele, when I was a kid I absolutely would not wear long sleeves for nothing, not even winter! They drove me crazy. It's a good thing I grew up in the desert so it wasn't too big of a problem for freezing. I can wear some now, but they can't be too tight or itchy or have a big seam, etc.

I never thought about wearing my socks inside out, I'll have to try that! Ever since I broke a certain toe, it sticks up now (I seriously creamed it and the doc wouldn't straighten it back out ) and easily gets irritated.

Hey, mouseslayer, you cutie. How you been? How are your pecans?!

I think having a cuff hit that bottom thumb knuckle is very irritating. Glad to know there are others who're bothered by long sleeves. I always have to push mine up--and actually, on QVC, the seller-persons (ladies) almost always have the models do that, too. It usually gives a woman a better "line," one of them said once.

You can remove the "Do not Remove" tags from your mattresses and pillows?????

Oh, M-e-y-a

I saw that and will file it away in my memory bank. Just never know when another panty thread will pop up. LOL
