Nobody on EO seemed to know this - I will bring it over to the intelligentsia.

What would you call this (junk if that's true) - it has soft creases in that follow the pattern - and it does not show well in the pic but there is a lot of gold in the pattern. It seems to be made with natural clay - that is it has a few bumps that come from sand in clay that has not been disolved and screened.

Here are the marks on back -

Gravid, I'm not at all familiar with that pattern.

Does the gold look like it's painted on? Or, does it look like wire work (Cloisonne').

From the picture, it looks like a new piece. But, it's really hard to tell.

The gold looks painted and fired on and there is an unglazed ridge about 6 inches across on the bottom like most dinner plates have that has so many little marks and scuffs that that the impression is that it is fairly old.
It is so deep it is closer to being a bowl than a plate. It is about 1-1/2 inches deep.
Something about it speaks to me - can't say why because I don't know china at all - but I want to make sure I don't toss it away cheap before I know what it is. The design in the center seems so different than the one around the edge. It seems odd to me. Beside the granuales sticking up there are a couple pin holes where the glaze did not wet and flow together when it was fired.

OOHHHH....pottery, china and the like. I was thinking like sweet and sour pork, peking duck, etc...

Sorry, I'll go back to my room now...
