Goodnight, Irene,
Goodnight, Irene,
I'll see you in my dreams.

It's not insomnia that ails me (I usually turn in at 5 am) but bad TV programming. I had a very regular schedule the last six months or so. I watched La Femme Nikita from 1 -2 am on USA; Investigative Reports from 2 - 3 am on A&E; and two back-to-back episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation on Channel 11, New York from 3 - 5 am.

But as of Labor Day, the programming dweebs decided to shuffle things around. Now instead of La Femme Nikita, USA has been showing reruns of the Martin Lawrence Show and Baywatch during the La Femme Nikita timeslot. Hopefully this is only a temporary change while they air the U.S. Open tennis championship. I used to switch to Millennium on the FX Network when Nikita was pre-empted, but as of Labor Day Millennium got axed from the line-up, leaving me little recourse.

To make matters worse, Channel 11 completely obliterated the Star Trek two'fer, replacing it with movies like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Needless to say, my viewing equilibrium is all thrown off. I am cast adrift on a sea of late night infomercials and home-shopping programs.

I've tried to take comfort in the Law & Order reruns on A&E at 3 am, but much as I like Law & Order, it's a little heavy for this time of night. It simply can't compare with the adventures of the starship Enterprise.

What's a TV addict to do?
