That was a perfectly OK question. We can't let the SOBs that did this have the satisfaction of completely disrupting us. That's what they want. Even businesses in NY are going to be opening tomorrow. Someone who makes their living or a large amount of their income from eBay or other online auctions would really need to know if USPS planes will be getting going again soon.

I don't care if they fly the mail, or send in on mule train. Anybody that wants to complain because a priority package takes a few extra days because of this can kiss my @ss.
Folks, get your priorities straight, we ARE AT WAR.

Well, even when we're AT WAR, we still want to have mail. There's nothing unpatriotic, un-American, or inappropriate about that.
First off, we are not AT WAR. Maybe we will be later, but we're not now. And, besides that, what exactly are the priorites we're supposed to get straight? Apparently, posting on a chat board to tell other people they have the wrong priorities is an okay priority, but wondering about mail is not?
posted on September 12, 2001 05:15:00 AM newFirst off, we are not AT WAR.
The US gets attacted, and we aren't at war? Hasn't the reality sunk in yet? Are you hoping all this will go away. Thousands of people dead, and you are worried about if mail gets put on planes today?
Sure the mail has to run, but our lives just got changed big time yesterday. If they do or don't load mail on planes today is the least of my worries.
Do you think if the do or don't load mail on planes today is a priority for our government today?
posted on September 12, 2001 05:36:09 AM newSo who are we at war with,
Who ever did this. They are still trying to figure that out for sure. Do you really think we should treat something like this as anything other than an act of war?
With these people using our airliners as weapons, do you really think getting mail gets put on planes today is a priority?
posted on September 12, 2001 06:17:22 AM new
They will know for sure soon enough. The list of suspects is very short. Just because the people that did this don't have enough balls to just admit it, doesn't make it anything less than an act of war.
The question I asked was "Do you really think we should treat something like this as anything other than an act of war?
" What do you think donny?

Is it truly necessary to scold someone for asking a question? Is it truly necessary that you have to be at WAR with each other? Ok....now scold me.

We are NOT at war! Yes,as soon as we find out who did this there will definatley be some retaliation. A country will probably be destroyed, more innocent lives wipped out.
Till this happens I plan on living my life.
I feel hurt,I feel pain, I fell anger, for what has happen;yet somehow some way the sun has come up allowed me another day. So YES as evil as that may sound I plan on living it!
Bidders and Sellers both we are not dumb! We know whats going on! We understand the delay!
We just want to know when the USPS is going to run? Don't blame us if all we want to do is to live our lives as normal as we possibly can
posted on September 12, 2001 07:03:25 AM new
No, I won't "scold" anyone, and if it came accross that way, sorry. I will say if you don't think we are at war, that according to the news this morning, 86% of the american public disagree with you, and I'm one of them.
As far as when the USPS will be back to normal, hopefully soon, but I don't see that as a priority. I see preventing anymore of our airliners from being used as weapons against us is the priority. It's only been 24 hours since this happened, and to expect the government to have everything "back to normal" is unrealistic, and indanger a lot of people. I don't think these attacts are over.

Well the FAA has pushed up the time to re open the airports.
It takes an awful lot to restart these airports, with a total shutdown across the country, this is different than weather shutting down a few, this is an entire country of all airports being shut down. Even with the timeframe they keep reporting, its most likely going to be longer than that.
Just starting up, and rerounting the airplanes sitting on each and every airport is a major thing.
Probably longer than what they are saying on tv.
if the people out there are going to be upset that their packages are late, uh, well, tough. They should know what has happened. I am surprised there was any bidding activity yesterday.

I have read this board for a couple years. I stopped using AW's services when they started chargin. I have never, ever posted. I gain useful information from these boards and sometimes get a really good laugh from some of the discussions. Out of all the ignorant, assine, selfish things that someone could ask "Is the mail going to run" ranks right up there at the top. Why are you worrying about some stupid package when thousands have died. Has this disaster not hit you yet? Have you not been watching the news? Did you not see people plunging out of the buildings? Did you not see the many replays of the plane hitting the building? Do you realize how long it will take NYC to recover? Do you even care fire and police department lost so many people yesterday who were trying to save lives? Instead of auctions I am thinking about the people who died yesterday. People that had nothing to do with anything. Families and friends that are mourning today. Do you really think that when those people went to work yesterday they thought, "I am going to get run over by a plane on the 71st floor today." Do think they really cared about some third-world country's politics? Don't sit there and kid yourself, we will go to war over this. The President has made it clear, did you even listen to his speech last night? The OK disaster does not even touch this. Nothing this country has endured is this bad and you are worried about whether the mail will run?

Well, our president just said "It was an act of War". The news just said to expect a declaration of war from the congress later today.

Microbes, thats right, he just invoked the 'War Powers Act'. and the congress won't, or can't quibble over this.

Microbes, I know. And at this point, its probably the only thing any President could do at this time. And I am sure both political parties will come together on this.

They just answered your question on TV, NO MAIL on airplanes.

Well, now that we've all had our fun, spouting indignancies, back to the question.
I just saw, as a blurb banner running under CNN coverage, that the U.S. Postal Service says it's going to expand ground delivery to ensure timely service.
Having worked for the Postal Service myself, I'd say, well, don't expect too much. But, it is nice to know that, apparently, CNN and the U.S. Postal Service both think this is something people are allowed to have concerns about.

Well, I have to go to the market and get food and supplies to cook tonights meal. Maybe I shouldnt, because of what happened yesterday? I need to go to the bank too. But maybe I shouldnt, because of what happened yesterday. Oh, I know, I will tell my spouse we wont eat tonight, or tomorrow night because of what happened yesterday. And I wont pay my bills to my creditors, because of what happened yesterday. In short, my life will stop, because other lives stopped yesterday. Not.

Some of us deal with this by keeping our lives normal. If I didn't, I would fall apart and would be no use to anyone. So I am doing stuff with my auctions and wondering if the mail will fly or if they will use trucks or what. That doesn't mean I don't care, it means that I grieve in a different way than someone else.
I visited the twin towers 6 years ago in September and all I could think of when it was falling was how it would feel to be up there. So I had to shake my head and go on with my normal life and absorb it in bits & pieces. So I think about when the mail will fly so I won't go insane. That is not bad, although a ton of people here seem to think it is.
And yes, I understood the soaps not being on yesterday, but I'm sure pissed about them not being on today! I need normalcy to survive this.

thank you for saving me from having to say it myself HEPBURN...It was an innocent question, I think??? No harm, no foul, just answer the question or move on. Dont you think that credit card, insurance companies etc. will be racking the late fees this month as a result of the slower mail delivery. I for one am sending everybody their payment VERY early.

It was my understanding that the original question about priority mail was the method of shipping (priority versus 1st class or parcel post) not that the mail was priority over what has just happened. I didn't see any reason for anyone to go ballistic and bring up soap operas. I wasn't even sure if the post office would even be open. It wasn't our fault that some of us had auctions ending yesterday that we needed to deal with (I didn't post any yesterday though, and only relisted a few auctions today that failed to get bids previously) or when payments came in. I promise that stuff will be shipped within a certain amount of time after payment is received and I try to follow that. I did mail 2 packages today and one went priority (mail) and they never said I couldn't, they were treating it as an option still available to us. Priority mail goes onto their own planes I think where 1st class (if traveling outside of your state) flies on commercial flights when there is room. With no flights, I'm sure that 1st class will go by truck. I am unsure of priority mail flying on non-commercial planes. I forgot to ask and they didn't say. I'm sure everyone is upset about yesterday and everyone handles it differently but I don't see any reason to take it out on others. I think it was an innocent question that a lot of people selling stuff in on-line auctions are wondering about. Personally I'm not too upset about the soaps. I watch a couple of them but I'm not addicted or anything like that. If I miss an episode or more, not a problem.

Here is the email I sent to all our customers yesterday, just as a friendly reminder that when we get over the shock, it might take awhile for things to return to "normal" - whatever that is now:
Dear fellow citizen and customer -
Due to the attack on our country by these spineless terrorists, the postal system will be affected.
If you are expecting an item that you have been notified has been shipped already, please be patient.
Those expecting their items to be shipped in the next few days, we're in a "wait and see" position.
If you have sent your payment via U.S. mail, I will (as always) let you know when your payment arrives here.
All items in auctions that closed and that we are awaiting payment for will be held (NOT relisted for non-payment) and no Non Paying Bidder alerts will be filed with Ebay for an understanding period of time.
Our prayers are with any of you more personally affected by this terrible tragedy.
