I've been trying to take my mind off the tragedy all day by thinking of other things. I'm not sure if anyone else cares right now, but I thought I'd bring one of those things up.

M&Ms used to be green, orange, yellow, dark brown and light brown. Now the light brown is gone and there are red and blue M&Ms in the pack. Neither of those colors look right to me, and I strongly dislike them both simply because they look "wrong." I miss the light brown M&Ms, even though they were kind of diarrhea-colored, which I presume is why they were discontinued.

I've heard there were red M&Ms "way back when" which were discontinued because the coloring used to make them was dangerous... but the new reds still don't look right to me.

Is anyone else bugged by the red and blue M&Ms? If everyone is interested only in the WTC circumstances and coming to grips with this terrible incident I'll understand, but I'm looking for distractions today.

Rainybear,

You really are a sweetheart, you know that?

I am glad you asked RB, Blue is not a natural food color....red on the other hand as in tomatos, radishes and beets is fine with me. But, I don't do blue food!
Thanks for the little break, it helps!

Whomever said they melt in your mouth and not in your hand, lied. Maybe not chocolate, but hold them long enough and you get spotted red, green, brown, blue and yellow palms.

But not as sweet as you, krs.

That's true that blue isn't a natural color of food, and the blue ones do bug me more than the red ones. I've also heard that dining rooms should never be decorated in blue because it's not a color which goes well with food. Orange and yellow are said to stimulate the appetite better, which is why they're used by so many fast food chains. My parents have a blue dining room, though, which has never bothered me except for the quails on the wallpaper.

I liked the tan M&M too! I don't like the blue plain M&M, but I do like the blue peanut M&M! Can you expain that one???????

Thank you RainyBear-I needed a break too! I have this horrible battle going on in my head! The whole "how I should feel" vs "how I really feel" thing.

Oh, don't even get me started on peanut M&Ms! I can't stand those things!

And hepburn, thanks for the warning... I won't hold fistfuls of M&Ms if I can avoid it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can find distraction in talking about chocolate candies.

Years ago a friend of mine actually wrote a letter to Mars Co. about why they didn't have a blue M&M. We were astonished that they bothered to reply. Their reason at that time (mid 70's) was that blue was not a color usually associated with food (blueberries not withstanding). I was surprised when they made the change a few years ago.

Blueberries! My gosh, I forgot all about those little yummies.

Then again, blueberries are kind of more purple than blue. At least they're not bright blue, like Smurfs.

Hey, I really like the red ones! They have been my favorite for years.

Yea to the red ones....as a kid with the Original Red...I used to pick those out and eat them first. Then I would share the remainder with friends or my little brother.

I find blue M&Ms annoying myself. They just don't look right. And the tan ones always tasted better than the red.

And I really don't think that M&Ms should be ruined with things like peanuts in them.

Thanks for the break RainyBear!

Green. They should sell bags of green only, but they won't because they'd never sell any other.

Lifesavers packaged favorite colors for a while, but never green. It was for the same reason. They're so good, why would anyone buy anything else?

How about the crispy M&Ms?....I LOVE those!!!!

Oh, and on the subject of M&Ms (thanx RainyBear for the distraction) was anyone aware that the green ones were purported to be aphrodisiacs?....I wasn't aware of that until the new commericals with the sexy green gal M&M.

If we're takin' a tally, I LIKE the blue ones!...But can't stand GREEN KETSUP!

If there were whole bags of green M&Ms, they'd no longer be special, and the M&M people know it. I've noticed there are fewer greens in M&M packs than any other color... but of course there are scads of the blue ones.

I have been in need of a good distraction as well. I personally think all colors of M&Ms taste the same. I don't mind the peanut ones unless they are old. I tried eating some that had been around the house awhile (maybe years, who knows for sure) and those old stale peanuts had the strangest after taste.

Ok, now that we've got a good grip on who likes what colors....How do you all prefer to eat them?....Chew 'em up or let 'em melt in your mouth?

The red ones used to make birds get drunk and crash into windows obsessively. That's why they changed the color--for the Audobron Sobriety.

Rancher - I can't manage to let anything melt in my mouth! Even Lifesavers and other had candies I have to chomp to bits nearly immediately, try as I might to make them last. It's a compulsion.

When I eat M&Ms (or even better, Skittles) at the computer, I take them out of the bag one small group at a time and eat them according to color, in no particular order but making sure to leave multiple colors on the desk. Sometimes I arrange them in ones or twos, by color, as I eat them. Then after that group is gone I pour out the next group and do the same thing.

I've eaten one pack of M&Ms and one pack of Skittles every day this week.

Ignoring the groaner above me

I've never tasted any difference between the colors on M&Ms.

A big YES to green Lifesavers. Red, too.

Femme - it's not the taste, it's the way they look! They all taste the same to me, too, but maybe the visual artist in me is just appalled at the shocking blue ones.

Nope, they're gonna be held in by braces starting next month. I'm getting braces at the tender age of 30! Plus I have a ton of fillings already. (Big surprise, huh?)

You know they sell bags of only red and green at Christmas time. And, bags of just pastel shades at Easter. I think there is an M&M store in Las Vegas that lets you make your own mix of colors....now that would be great! I personally like yellow.

RainyBear...see now, I HAVE to let 'em melt in my mouth...I take a bunch (with no regard for color separation) and pop 'em in my mouth....When they are good & melted, then (and ONLY then) I chew 'em.....My teeth hurt just thinkin' about you chewin' lifesavers!....

Oh, this is NOT fun!....We are dieting here & there haven't been M ees (our pet name for M&Ms) in the house in over a month....AGH!!!.....

I love M&Ms, I'd eat a whole bag if they were easier to peel. I keep hoping they'll offer them already peeled.

I'm thinking that peeled M&Ms are Ummm... kinda like Hershey Kisses or something. Are we gonna get in trouble with copyright laws for using brand names?

To eat my M&M's, I make a pile on the desk, and put them in two rows each of the same color. Red, blue, green, yellow, brown. Then back to red, blue, green, etc. I pop two in my mouth at the same time, and tuck them under my tongue til they are mooshy, THEN I pop them on the roof of my mouth with my tongue. But I always do the row thing

Thanks, RainyBear.

I like fluff!
M&M's are AWESOME mixed in with freshly popped popcorn!
I love the salt & choc together!
mmmmmmmmm!

>>>hold them long enough and you get spotted red, green, brown, blue and yellow palms<<<

I'm a bit worried about Hepburn.
Perhaps aliens have intervened?
The Hep that I know and love could never hold on to chocolate long enough to let it melt.
