ABC News is reporting that 10 people are in custody in New York after attempting to board aircraft at JFK and LaGuardia with knives and false identification

I'm numb.

They looked Arabic, had knives, false IDs, open tickets dated Sept 11, on a flight to the west coast.....

I mean they might as well have been wearing tee shirts that said "I Love Bin Laden". Did they really think that in the current atmosphere that someone wouldn't be just a smidgen paranoid?

4 of them apparently left when security became concerned on 9/11. They seem to have felt that on 9/13 their odds of passing security were better. If they are involved I hope they are able to give answers to critical questions.

I wonder how many people feel the "ground rules" of being in a hijacked airplane have changed? It used to be that if your plane was hijacked you stood a very good chance of surviving if you stayed cool and did what you were told.

But based on the events of this week would that still be conventional wisdom? Aren't many people more likely to assume that they are going to die and that they may be unwillingly involved in the deaths of many others? I have been wondering if it would now be more common for passengers to resist like those on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania did.

Doc,
"But based on the events of this week would that still be conventional wisdom? Aren't many people more

many others?"
I think people will do the same as they allways have.
One example would be, the Germans herding unarmed people off trains.

They gave themself up today so the FAA would close down air traffic NYC and Washington.
They most likely have some people with some SAMs hoping to see Air Force One tomorrow.
I think Bush will come in low on a helicopter.
I'm praying for those guys on Air force one

Yes as many stinger missles as were sent to Afganistan I would never fly the president into N.Y. on a copter. I think they were nuts to send him back to Washington DC so fast.

They are so intent on showing how uneffected they are that they are hanging their bare butt out the window with a big target painted on it. This macho posturing to show everything is working like normal when it is NOT is not prudent.

When you underestimate the opposition you have done half their work for them.

He does need to talk to the American people, but I agree, we don't need the president killed right now. Him or Cheney one needs to be inside of NORAD right now.

He can talk from anywhere. I was surprised that he was in DC.

I think one of the scariest elements about 4 of the terrorists that were taken into custody is where they were when they were apprehended. These 4 men were on a plane in their seats waiting for it to take off. While many news stories have been rumors this seems to be one I've not seen dismissed yet. I can't imagine how the US would have felt if they had been successful in their mission. Was the UN, the White House, or the Capitol Building their target? One can only guess.

No, it isnt over yet. Why should it be? Just because 18 did what they set out to do? Where are the rest of them? Biding their time for more laxness, thats what. And last night on the news, they interviewed one of the passengers on that plane where they arrested the four people. He said OUSTIDE the terminal, it was more secure, but at the xray machine, they didnt even glance at the screen. Did you read what I just said? they didnt even glance at the screen. After all this crap, all the death, the heightened securities and fears....they didnt look at the screens. And people wonder how they get in with knifes and weapons.

Thanks for that link ksterni. I'm still seeing conflicting reports on that story. The CBS story does makes sense though.
